About the Author

A.J. Stewart wrote marketing copy for Fortune 500 companies and tech start-ups for 20 years, until his head nearly exploded from all the stories bursting to get out. Stiff Arm Steal was his fifth novel, but the first to make it into print. He has lived and worked in Australia, Japan, UK, Norway, and South Africa, as well as San Francisco, Connecticut and of course Florida. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his two favorite people, his wife and son. AJ is working on a screenplay that he never plans to produce, but it gives him something to talk about at parties in LA.

A really good read. Well written and an engaging story. Seemed a lot more realistic than some books I've read. Great that it was also about something other than murder and as always I appreciated the avoidance (mostly) of sex. Some thoughtful emotional content.

It is quite refreshing to have the hero of a story be a down to earth guy. With many modern novels, the way that the author tries to give the main character a more 3D feel is to give them serious emotional flaws to work through, which is a bit of a cop out. With Miami Jones and the others A J has made the effort to create characters with the feel of genuine warmth and humanity, making the book a much more believable read.

I enjoyed reading this book.
I found the plot engaging, the main characters believable and some of the narrative descriptive phrases amusing.
I am not a sports enthusiast, but I enjoy the taste of American Football & Baseball that is integrated with the adventure. I should like to read more.

The book revels in the theft of a sport trophy. The story imbue the detective world with wonder; everything around becomes fantastical and has meaning. The author's portrayal of Miami and it's environment in particular is an enchanting evocation of the cosmopolitan city. From the arresting opening image to the unexpected twists in the story line, this is a hardboiled delight. The dialogues are what makes the book sparkle, with lively exchanges between various characters, that brings out the key clues to the mystery, which the author thoughtfully crafted into the story.

The leading characters are strong, detectives who don't take themselves too seriously, so the dialogue has lots of wisecracking. It's the kind of fast paced mystery/whodunit (or rather in this case, who stole it) I love diving into.

Overall, the author's build up of the plot is superb and it is author's ability to convey the story in free-flow text, that makes this book such a captivating read. While the style, subject matter and characters make this most likely to be a hit with crime lovers, it's an exciting read for all type of book readers, as the story is raw and gripping, with good measure of suspense and thrill builtin. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this book, it was so easy to read. The characters were both well rounded and believable and I could "see" all of them.

I'm looking forward to reading more about Miami Jones et al.

Miami Jones is fun! The writing engages and it is a very enjoyable, easy read. The PI is more Myron Bolitar than Travis McGee and the whole thing crackles with joie de vivre.
