Steve is from the ancient Township of Laugharne, in west Wales. He was educated at Whitland Grammar School before serving an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer at the Royal Aerospace Establishment, Aberporth. He now lives in Shropshire.
His interest in World War One began following the discovery that his paternal great grandfather, also from Laugharne, was killed whilst serving with the Australian Forces in 1916 and led to him writing his first book on the Laugharne War Memorial, entitled 'A Township in Mourning'.
