I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK THE MAIN REASON IS THAT IT IS A TOTALLY HONEST TALE OF A LIVERPOOL PLAYER WHO HAS GROWN IN STATURE OVER THE YEARS THE LOVE HE HAS FOR HIS PARENTS AND HIS BROTHER SHINE RIGHT THROUGH THE BOOK AND THEY ARE STILL A GUIDING LIGHT IN EVERY DECISION HE MAKES NOW HE HAS A LOVING WIFE AND THREE LOVELY GIRLS HE IS CARRYING ON THAT TRADITION OF FAMILY AND HE HAS MY ADMIRATION AS A FOOTBALLER AND AFTER READING THE BOOK AS A SON HUSBAND AND FATHER

This book really covers little of Gerrard's early life in any detail, just mainly general references about sitting round watching MOTD with his family etc. The first 16 years are covered in about as many pages. The period from when he was age 16 to when the book was published in 2006 are covered in far more detail. The main footballing part is peppered with references to past players and has some interesting insights as to what happened from Gerrard's perspective.

As a book it has obviously been "ghost written" and is in a very basic style which could be read by any reasonably literate 10 year old. Unfortunately, most 10 year olds will wonder who on earth "Incey", Smicer, Staunton etc were since they would not have been born when these players played for Liverpool.

In summary, written in primary school English; heavily sanitised; heavily censored & tries not to be contentious or rude about anyone. Not a challenging read, no great insights but will satisfy the non-critical Liverpool fan reader. Personally, I wanted more than this book delivered.
