Steve Walton is widely known in the UK and internationally for his fine art wedding and monochrome landscape photography. Drawing from his own experience in fine art reprographics and over three decades as a professional photographer since he photographed his first wedding in 1981 for a friend of the family, Steve was commissioned in October 2005 as the principal author and primary image supplier of his book, Contemporary Wedding Photography, along with co-author Angie Patchell of EmergingArt who devised the chaptering and layout of the images and text.
Angie Patchell took the concept of Steve's new book to the London, Frankfurt, Paris and New York Book Fairs. Through Angie's contacts and good reputation, several publishing companies were keen to publish Contemporary Wedding Photography. With the benefit of Angie's experience of many years in the publishing industry and after taking her advice, Steve chose David & Charles as his first book publisher.
Steve began working independently on the text in October 2005, writing from his own personal experience as an established fine art wedding photographer. The first edition of 'Contemporary Wedding Photography' was published in February 2006 in both hard and soft covers. Translated into several languages and now in it's second edition, his book still enjoys strong sales and has achieved global critical acclaim as an inspirational 'how to' book on contemporary wedding photography.
The 'bride' in the cover image was a friend of Julie Oswin who had agreed to pose for her. Julie Oswin was working in a local hosiery factory and had enrolled on Steve's City & Guilds photography class at Loughborough College to learn the basics of photography, she subsequently asked for mentoring and help to create images of suitable standard to enter into her camera club print competitions. Originally taken on film, she was unable to make a print from the underexposed negative and asked Steve to scan and digitally enhance the image for her. Steve and Angie's publishers subsequently used a version of the image on the cover of his book.
