Product Description

Review

"It is a testament to Claxton's eye and skill that it does more than simply show a movie star as work and play. Claxton brings a lost era alive through his subject."-Value Rich Magazine, Palm Springs "One time when I was with him, he drove a brand new Ford convertible, with only thirty miles on the speedometer, at top speed for such a long stretch of the Texas highway that the engine began to smoke and eventually caught on fire. He slowed down and shouted to me, "Clax, when I tell you to jump, jump!" We did jump out of the car just as it burst into flames. Steve sat on the side of the country road at a safe distance from the burning vehicle and laughed his head off." - William Claxton"

This is a beautiful book! The pictures are exquisite, a lot of pictures I've never seen before. These photo's are from 1962- 1964. A short period from Steve McQueen's life, but William Claxton had untold access to McQueen. By the sounds of it they were buddies. McQueen always hung out with real people, his kind of people.
You get behind the scenes photo's from "Love With The Proper Stranger" and "Baby The Rain Must Fall." As well as shot's at home (The Castle), with his family. Photo's, dirt-biking with his mates. Photo's of McQueen horsing around. And photo's of McQueen and his wife on a road trip with the photographer and his wife.
It would have been nicer to see photo's from other periods in Steve's life. But these pictures are special. If you love Steve McQueen, you have got to get this book.
I bought this from Amazon. It arrived within 5 days. The book was in cellophane, in pristine condition and well packaged so that even the clumsiest postman, could not harm it. (I'm very fussy about my books, if you hadn't noticed) All this for £7.19 and free p+p, I'm sure it retails in the shops for £25- £30.00. What more could a cheap-skate, Steve McQueen fan ask for?

The late great William Claxton was perhaps the only guy who Steve Mcqueen trusted to get up close and personal and take pictures of him and his family throughout his life and it shows in this book..
You can see by the relaxed and at ease look on Steve Mcqueens face throughout all the shots taken of him behind the scenes and within his home.. I would say that through the eyes of this amazing photographer , it feels that you were there. Willam Claxtons pictures make you feel that you knew Steve Mcqueen and his family. I have a huge collection of pictures ,books and items on Steve Mcqueen , but for me this book is the best one for the most speacial pictures of this acting legend.!

A must have for any fan and one to put on your coffee table .. :-D

RIP William Claxton

This is a fantastic book on the legend McQueen. It has a handful of beautiful photos from a certain time, this is the perfect book to look through and appreciate the kind of man he was. The photos beautifully reflect his personality and interests at this point. You can also see the relationships he had.

One for Steve McQueen fans, an intimate series of photos and portraits by Photographer William Claxton of quite possibly one of the coolest actors to grace the silver screen. This book covers a fairly short snippet of McQueens acting career and life at home showing both the serious broody nature of his persona but also the joker and petrol head.
The book is light on text, it does contain some very cool insights about the photos and the moment captured on film but the black and white insider style nature of the photography make for a great addition to the coffee table book collection for any Steve McQueen fan.

I found the pictures great the show a different side to McQueen that the movies never got to see, it's a timeless book that you will still think is good in twenty years time. McQueen is an absolute legend, any fan of McQueen definitely needs to own this book,
