Esoteric Antenna are pleased to announce the release of Steve Hackett s legendary performance on the German TV show Musikladen , recorded in Bremen on the 8th November 1978. Taped in front of a small studio audience, the performance featured Steve s newly formed band of John Hackett (flute, guitar, bass pedals), Nick Magnus (keyboards), Dik Cadbury (bass), John Shearer (drums) and Pete Hicks (vocals) and was recorded prior to the release of the album Spectral Mornings . Steve now reflects; At the time of the recording of the Musikladen show in Germany, we struggled to meet the needs of the studio technicians who wanted us to turn down our amps...We got out of it in the time honoured way by doing what we liked on the night and up went the amps to eleven as usual! On reflection I think it all came out really well. The band were very much on form and I'm proud of the performance. It was part of the first tour with my own team and in places it felt like a rocket lifting off . This Esoteric Antenna release is Region Free in the NTSC format and has been assembled with the full co-operation of Steve Hackett. It features two bonus tracks that were recorded but not broadcast on the final programme.

I possess several albums (vinyl and CD) and a couple of music DVD's of him in concert and happily bought this.
The tracklisting is thus:
Please don't touch
Racing in A
Ace of wands
A Tower struck down/Spectral mornings
Shadow of the hierophant
Clocks/The angel of mons
Carry on up the vicarage
Star of Sirius
All performed wonderfully. All his band members on form.
I'd love to have been there for this remarkable event.
I'll just have to make do with this DVD...................it's good enough!
I am a fan of his early albums so perhaps I'm a little biased when I say the songs are excellent throughout; even "Carry on up the Vicarage" has a quirky fun element.
The only (small) disappointment is that the picture quality belies its age as a 1970's production, mainly in terms of a slightly grainy picture quality that is magnified through viewing on quality modern TVs and some of the visual effects are also very dated. That is to be expected though, so I have only docked the DVD one star becasue of it.
Don't expect a massive audience reaction to the music. Because this was recorded for a German TV programme there is only a small studio audience (all seated at tables!) and whilst they are enthusiastic, they can't replicate the feeling and buzz you get from a full-blown concert.
That saying, it is still a great trip down memory lane.
Whatever you do though, do NOT order from Blast Entertainment, as they will bombard you with spam, up to 15 messages a day, every day, and they will continue, despite repeated requests to stop. All of this SPAM is utterly irrelevant, offensive, thoughtless, and only serves to clog up the message inbox with messages I cannot delete, so when I look for the messages I want, I have to sort through HUNDREDS of useless messages from Blast Entertainment.
AVOID BLAST ENTERTAINMENT AT ALL COSTS.
