Lesley and Steve Fallows have spent many years holidaying in France. In 2000 they bought a ruined old farmhouse and barns and set about the long process of renovation, an adventure which is still ongoing.
Some of the renovation has been undertaken by them and some by French artisans.
More recently, in a moment of madness, they bought another barn from their French neighbour. This one has just three walls - and the neighbour still uses it for storing his farm equipment. This is life in rural France.............
Throughout the whole period, they found that most of the words needed for purchasing materials and tools, or for interpreting quotations and estimates weren’t to be found in standard dictionaries.
They started compiling a list of words for their own use. The list grew and grew. Eventually, following months of further research, they published the Fallows French Building Dictionary.
They are now working on further dictionaries - with the Fallows French Food Dictionary being published in summer 2013.
You can catch up with them on Twitter - @FallowsFrench - they'd love to hear from you!
