I loved all the characters and there was just enough story line for each of them.
Will definitely look for another read by the author
Some readers had a problem wit the romance aspect due to Bladen (the Hero of this piece) having a girlfriend (Peyton), but to me it was pretty clear he wasn't that into her and was always carrying a torch for Aira (the heroine).
Other than that it scores top marks for having an intelligent Heroine (she's a pre-med student) and although I'd has preferred it if she wasn't always swooning over him, she did hold her own.
I also scored it 3* because I liked the remaining members of the family (wasn't that impressed by the middle brother's sad BROKEN-HEARTED-Byron attitude - so cliché) but I liked that Aira's father was a good guy and her mother still loved him, despite the new marriage - it was different to the usual broken-marriage scenes. It gave her background story a more tragic feel to it as well.
I think it would have been better if there was more interaction between Aira and Blade as civilised members of the same household where they stifle/repress their feelings while exchanging stolen glances sans the melodrama
Overall, Blade and Aira are hot characters.
Step-Lover follows the story of Aria and Blade. Aria has a weekend where she decides to live a little, she is off to college soon and doesn’t want to go there as a virgin. A night out with friends, leads to a weekend with mystery man. A whole weekend where she thought the feelings were the same, it wasn’t just physical, but she was wrong. Blade is a player, he likes to have fun and doesn’t mind how he gets the girl but he won’t stay around.
We go ahead to a year later, where Aria is told she finally gets to meet her new step brothers, she hasn’t met them but talks to Ripley already. Not overly excited about this, she drags her best friend Melanie with her for a month long family getaway at her step dad Jacks lake house. But who should turn up none other than her mystery man in the form of her new step brother Blade. “This could destroy everything.”
Blade isn’t happy to see her and she isn’t happy to see him. Things are awkward and Blade plays the douche quite well, he constantly riles her up and takes great pleasure in calling her sister or sissy. Aria not being able to stand being around him decides to keep her distance from him, well she tries. After over hearing Jack telling her step brothers about the night that haunts her, she loses her cool and storms off. This leads to her becoming close to Brooding Brody and Ripley.
A night that shouldn’t have happened at the lake house causes Aria more pain as Blade does what he does best, gets what he wants and then leaves her. “He did it again. Blade broke me a second time.” We move a year forward to find Aria has met someone else, Ripley had moved in with Jack, Brody now lives in town and Blade is nowhere to be found.Read more ›

This is my favourite step siblings romance, the characters and story are well developed and even though you will want to slap Blade several times he will still make you swoon. Read morePublished 13 months ago by Anne Milne
I normally like this author but it looks almost like somebody else wrote it. Didn't like enslaved by the ocean either. Aria and Blade really aren't likable characters.Published 14 months ago by Irma
