Brilliant "Diet" book - so easy to follow that you don't even have to give up very much what you normally eat unlike all these other diet books out there ( there was no way I was going to eat all that low fat food ) .Then there's the easy part of counting your daily steps using a pedometer - I've been tracking myself for a month now & have greatly improved my daily step total - feeling far fitter & healthier than I've ever been .I've lost 6 kilos (now I'm 48kgs at 5 feet height in my late 30's )using the information in this book plus exercising for 30 minutes extra 4 days a week with "Walk Away The Pounds" DVD by Leslie Sansone ( highly recommended for people who don't want to strain themselves too much exercising ). This book even gave the clues as to how over the years I was slowly accumulating the extra kilos through little exercise & a little extra sweets eaten frequently . The only drawback is the free pedometer that comes with the book - throw it away & buy a better one .

My husband and I are not the dieting type of people. We have always eaten healthily, but what we weren't getting was exercise. After my angiogram, I attended cardio therapy classes and learned how walking is very good for you. With the book and the step counter, my husband and I not only began to lose weight without dieting, but we felt so much better. I now walk 4-5 miles a day and my husband is managing to get in two miles a day after work and more on weekends. I highly recommend this book to all those who are burned out with failed diets. All you have to do is cut back on the amount of food you eat as you walk more. Walk and lose, terrific!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Buying 15 Nov. 2011
By boggie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I have read the other reviews and yes the pedometer sent with the book is a piece of junk. After reading the other reviews I ordered the Omron HJ 112 pedometer. It is a great pedometer that gives you how many calories you have burned and how many steps you have taken. I have tried all the diets and yet this concept really changed my weight loss/maintenance regime. It really does work to just walk the 10,000 steps (or more) every day. The weight came off and it makes maintaining my weight easier. I have found that if I can't walk everyday I really miss it. I walk in the rain, sun and snow. You just have to commit to it. This just seemed so easy to me and it was. I did this with slowly changing my eating habits and I couldn't be happier. I had a goal to loose just 1 pound a month so I wouldn't be stressed about "dieting" and it worked. I have lost 30 pounds in 30 months. When I started this I said this was my job to get healthy and that is what I continue to think everyday. You go to work everyday so why not commit to getting healthier everyday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still relevant 10 or so years later 25 Jan. 2017
By M. K. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This step diet is still relevant today 10 years after I first bought it . In fact I have bought this book 8 times over ten years giving it to friends and family and replacing my copy ( I lost 2 copies in that time ) . It is so easy to follow - the only big commitment on my part I found was attempting to achieve 12,000 or more steps a day , which I found quite hard sometimes . So every few years I start the Step Diet , get to my goal weight then stop and put it on again or more and then decide to start it up again . This Step Diet is a lot easier than counting calories , I can tell you . And putting on the pedometer does make me more active overall as well.
I do agree with the other reviewers - just ditch the free pedometer and invest in a good one - I still prefer the pedometers that you either wear on your pants / belt or the new pocket pedometers ( I have the Brilliant G-Sensor 3D sensor Pocket Pedometer ) as I feel they are more accurate than the ones you wear on your wrist .
This is the only diet book that I recommend to friends and family wholeheartedly even after 10 years .

4.0 out of 5 stars Gave me the incentive to get moving. 23 Sept. 2012
By S. Patel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book gave me the incentive I needed to get moving. Since I started I've increased my steps from around 6,000 per day to 15,000+. I've never felt better. I have more energy and the pounds are starting to melt away. Now I feel really down on the days when I don't get my walk in.

The authors give many painless ways to increase your step count without taking any additional time from your already hectic day.

I also like the way the program is structured so that changes are gradual and easy to fit into your routine. You're not trying to overhaul your whole life at once. The steps are simple and doable.

The pedometer that accompanies the book is cheap and badly made. Spend a few more dollars and invest in an Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer and follow this program. Your health and waistline will thank you for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book was great! 2 Oct. 2013
By grandma B - Published on Amazon.com

It has been very helpful for me trying to figure out how to lose weight and keep it off forever.
UPDATE:
Since I got this book in 2013, I have now lost almost 30 pounds. I have also learned to change my eating habits, however I was not able to walk for a few weeks and even though I had changed my eating habits, I put a couple of pounds back on. It has become clear to me, that walking those 10,000 steps a day is really important to your health. I have a friend who has diabetes and she was walking with me, and was losing weight, until she started having some problems with her hip. Her physician was getting ready to put her on insulin, however. while walking, her glucose level dropped a lot and he didn't have to. Now, that she isn't walking, she has put all of her weight back on, and her sugar is way up. I am certainly glad that I purchased this book and hope that others will just start walking. IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE!
