For those of us who saw the 35th Anniversary Tour this DVD should be a 'must have' purchase to relive the wonderful experience of great band reaching a commendable milestone.

What you get however is at best arborial camera work, totally amateur editing, and - worse of all - a terrible sound mix. The live concert sound was very good, but this recording sounds and looks at times like a it was recorded by camcorder held in the audience and does nothing to enrich the experience.

Traditionally, and by necessity Steeleye move from line up to line up, but this incarnation works as one of the best of late. Maddy's superb vocal, and in particular Ken Nicoll's fluid and lyrical guitar playing is well complimented with fine bass, imaginative drums and expressive violin.

As far as extra features go, they are very limited. The brief interviews add insight to the band and its relationship with each other and the music, but the film quality and editing is to amateur quality.

Come on Park Records, you have a great act here - why let them down with such an amateur production?

Band 5 stars, production 1 star - average 3 - but buy it for the band, not the production.

Frankly it is difficult to believe that that a DVD recorded so recently for public sale could really be this bad. To be honest, the picture quality, the sound and the editing are very poor. The lyrics are virtually inaudible and there is no subtitle option. For life-long fans of Span like myself I KNOW who the band members are but the complete absence of any relevant sleeve notes or an insert leaves the lineup a mystery to any newcomer to a band that has changed so much over the years. I am tempted to say "cheap and nasty" except that it was far from cheap.

Recorded live at The Rose Theatre Tewkesbury, with encores from the Southampton Civic Hall in the spring of 04, this DVD is a relaxing reprise of the current lineup including old stagers Maddy Prior, Peter Knight, and Rick Kemp as they do a stately walz through numbers old and new. And for 60s rock aficiandos off to collect their bus passes there's even a drum solo, perhaps to balance the fiddle's delightful Si Begh Si Mohr (though I still prefer Dave Swarbrick's version). The whole show ends with an accapella Gaudete, without which the show live or on DVD would hardly be deemed complete. As the core of Steeleye's fan base matures/ages/retires/dies off it is perhaps inevitable that there is always something of a wake at such concerts where we, the audience want the old troupadours to sing the songs of our youth (All around my hat, King Henry and so forth) and yet feel there's still more magic in getting out the old LPs and recalling the first time we heard them. Though Maddy Prior is looking better than ever (the wardrobe is great) this isn't really a visual experience. Turn on the DVD. Pour that last bottle of Titanic stout you've been saving, sit back, and close your eyes - it's almost as good as a Folk On Two concert!

Maybe I'm a bit to set in my tastes to review this fairly- I have the CD re-issues of Steeleye's early albums (before they lost the plot in the mid-70s) and they can't be beaten as far as I'm concerned. This doesn't quite cut it- sorry guys!
