The main purpose of the manual is to reveal to the novice (or complete newcomer) the many different facets and fields of creative activity the movement covers, offering guidance, tips and general knowledge of the genre to help inspire and encourage the reader's own creativity.
It's a beautifully illustrated book and covers just about all the main areas of activity one would expect – writing, illustration, costume, 3-D work (building machines/objects, jewellery etc.) and music (though the publication would appear to pre-date Darcy James Argue`s Secret Society recordings – the first Steampunk inspired Jazz).
How useful it will prove to be is up to the individual, but it's certainly an informative and entertaining book to look through and is a practical companion to The Steampunk Bible: An Illustrated Guide to the World of Imaginary Airships, Corsets and Goggles, Mad Scientists, and Strange Literature being a uniform hardback in size and format.
A quite worthwhile addition to the Steampunk enthusiast's library and certainly of some use to those of a practical or creative disposition.
