Buster Keaton must be appreciated with patience and the right attitude, because he requires viewers to take time and follow his stories, the rhythm of his scens and acting performances, the effects of his face expressions and body language that are apparently minimal until they suddenly produce something unexpected and crazy or slowly develop into a joke and action that can be understood only when it is fully accomplished. It is a super modern and refined cinema and comical strategy that tells a lot about modern age and a philosophical view of life and history, the alineation of man and his struggle against destiny, prejudice, society, community. But it is also a talent that explodes into incredible and liberating scenes where he makes impossible things possible, like in the most famous of this film, that is constantly regarded as one of the best in cinema history: the falling house scene, something made with no special fx and just a perfect coordination between his body, on stage effects and camera/editing settings. You may argue that this is not Buster Keaton's best. However, it contains one of the most daring and dangerous scenes in cinema history. During the typhoon scene toward the end of the film, Keaton stands in the exact spot where the front of a house will fall, so that Keaton is standing in the gap of a window frame when it does. With no CGI, this stunt is performed by Keaton himself. Not many people will risk their lives for a comedy sketch.
