Steady as she goes is the first full length single from the supergroup 'The Raconteurs'. This has a distinic catchy quality to it, just as many of the white stripes singles did (seven nation army, the denial twist and blue orchid to name a few). This song has been accepted as a classic from the hardcore fans when it was released as a very limited 7" in january and now its time for the mainstream to get into it. I feel that the single itself has such great quality that it can bring the raconteurs to high levels, that took the white stripes 4 years to achieve. The single has a catchy riff and catcher lyrics. Jack White and Brenden Benson are a great pair, their voices are so similar you cant tell who is singing. The single, supprisingly starts off with a drum beat by greenhorn patric keeler, the best drumer of his generation, and a nice little bass riff by greenhorn Jack lawrence, one of the leading garge rock basists. The song is a great singalong song and will be getting festival crowds jummping up and down all summer. I prerdict great success for this band. But is it ever going to be as good as the white stripes? Well if this single is anything to go by then maybe...

The debut single from the side project of The White Stripes Jack White, solo artist Brendan Benson, and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler of The Greenhornes. This 2006 release used the dynamics of a grunge rock song, and a loping bass-line with an uncanny resemblance to unfashionable new wave artist Joe Jackson's 'Is She Really Going Out With Him?' to create a solid, if unspectacular rock tune. (I have to admit to being flabbergasted by the sheer scale of the success of 'Steady, As She Goes': it was nominated for a Grammy in 2007; became a UK Top 10 hit, and has been covered since by artists like Corinne Bailey Rae and Adele.) It is backed here by just one B-side - 'The Bane Rendition'. This swirling, moody instrumental owes more than a little to the blues-y hard rock of Led Zeppelin.

Ok it's a perfect song, very catchy, with beautiful clear-sound guitars from Jack White and his mates. When I heard it a couple of times, I liked so much, so I bought the single immediately.

But nobody is talking how good the b-side is. The Bane Rendition is a fantastic rock instrumental track with plenty of highly inspired guitar tunes... it goes low and silent and then loud again so beautifully.
