I judge books by how much they stay with me (no pun intended) while I'm not reading them. Can I wait to pick it up again? Do I want to read it every chance I get? Can I fit in one more chapter even though I need an early night?

I was definitely thinking about Stay a lot even when I wasn't reading. Julian and Lexie's ups and downs are so overwhelming that it's as if you're sharing in them yourself. This can sometimes feel like a little too much, and both characters can be frustrating to the point of wanting to stop reading there and then, but Hilary Wynne has crafted this little world so well that you have real faith in the characters and want to make sure they both turn out OK.

It may be obvious from the start which guy Lexie will end up with but Hilary doesn't stop surprising you. She writes sexual tension so well that I was worried the act itself would be a disappointment. It was anything but disappointing, but I did feel there were perhaps too many sex scenes somewhere in the middle. I began to feel like I was reading erotica, not romance, which is fine but not what I thought the book would be.

Julian did ruin the fantasy for me in his efforts to convince Lexie to sleep with him without protection. Not cool, Julian.

Without wanting to ruin the ending, I was shocked by Luke's harsh words to Lexie and was a little uncomfortable with them since they seemed so out of character. I was, however, pleased that Wynne did something to keep readers from thinking Luke would be the better man to be with, since there's nothing worse than finding a better male lead in a romantic novel.

All in all, I know for sure that I enjoyed this book and will be purchasing the sequel.

Where do I begin? I wasn't sure what book to read next and I was so glad this book was recommended. The author's style of writing is fresh but just goes into to much detail where it's not really needed. But saying that the main characters and their chemistry was hot and they were believable. Reading this my emotions were all over the place, Alexa and Julian have been through so much yet they compliment each other nicely. Will be buying the next book as the author has got me hooked on this series.

This is a well-written novel with an easy, comfortable style that keeps the reader engaged. It felt a little slow to begin with and the romance between Alexa and Julian felt like a given, but the tension gradually increased and I was definitely hooked before I got halfway in. There were some chapters where I really didn't want to put the book down! I appreciated the fact that the biggest plot point regarding Alexa's past is only revealed close to the end, with Wynne throwing in several clues along the way to keep the reader guessing. She handled the troubling subject matter well without being too explicit.

At first the relationship between Alexa and Julian seemed a little too good to be true because it plays into the female fantasy of meeting the perfect guy and launching into a passionate love affair that turns into the happy ever after, but my view on this changed a little as the novel progressed. Both characters have their flaws and I enjoyed seeing the more normal aspects of their personalities. However, I did enjoy how the novel is self-aware about its role as wish-fulfillment, with Alexa making several references to her life resembling a romance novel or chick flick. The relationship is fraught with conflict, and the characters spend a significant amount of time at odds with one another when they're not getting passionate and there were times I wondered what Alexa and Julian saw in one another besides a physically attraction yet I still found myself rooting for them. I'm definitely curious to see how their relationship develops in a sequel, and hope to see greater depth in the emotional connection between them.

The novel contains rather a lot of sex scenes, which are well written, though the ratio of sexual content to plot is perhaps a little heavy.

Beautiful and independent Alexa has been living a half life. Julian is also living a half life, but for a different reason. Alexa is living a recluse life. She doesn’t go out with her friends any more. She goes “dark” every now and then, not replying to texts or answering the phone. Julian is out and seen constantly, usually with a hot model on his arm in his high class hotel or nightclub, but hasn’t had a real relationship in years.

To celebrate Luke’s, Alexa’s best friend, birthday she is convinced to go out to dinner and to the club Luke works at. This same club is the one Julian owns. On wobble high heels, after a few drinks Alexa literally runs into Julian. The sparks fly. When Luke see’s what is happening between Julian and Alexa, the jealousy comes out and he is trying to stop this relationship from happening.

My Review:

The tension, the sparks, the love is all so evident from the first run in between Alexa and Julian. I started this book as soon as the kids left for school and could not put it down. When forced to put it down I was thinking about it and wondering what would happen next. I finished it before I went to bed, I just could not stop reading.

The descriptions of Alexa and Julian, from the clothes they wore to the way they react to each other’s touches, made the character so realistic. I felt like I was in the nightclub when they met and saw the sparks fly. I could easily picture Alexa’s trashed bedroom as she was trying to find the right outfit to wear. The description of Julian’s home had me picturing the view they could see when out on the balcony or eating breakfast on the island in the kitchen.

I found myself being more and more lost in the story the further into the book I got. This book had the heat and the heart that I always look for. I highly recommend everyone reading it.
