Doesn't support hotswap - requires reboot

While the adapter does appear to enable you to use ExpressCards on your desktop computer, for it to announce the new card on the system requires an OS reboot (thus eliminating most of the "convenience" of ExpressCards over PCI-based alternatives. Therefore, you should not think of this as a fully fledged ExpressCard bay, rather a riser to an existing PCIe motherboard interface.

A definite plus is that this adapter itself is transparent to the system, so if a custom driver was normally required to operate a given ExpressCard this is the still the only additional step required to get the ExpressCard running.

To be honest with you though, if it weren't for the fact that I already had these ExpressCards lying around I wouldn't bother with this adapter at all. There are far better options out there.

Perfect, cheap solution to reading SXS and SXS-1 cards on your PC. Does potentially support hotswap.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago after finding no reasonable alternative for transferring footage from my Sony EX-3 to my pc. Other than either transferring it onto a laptop with an expresscard port then copying it across or buying an expensive (and slow) USB reader from Sony.

The previous reviewer stated it doesn't support hotswapping of cards. This is true to an extent but you can get it to read different cards without restarting your pc with a bit of fiddling.

When you want to swap cards, first take the card out then go to Device Manager in Windows and click "scan for hardware changes"
This should dismount the current card.
Then put the next card in and click "scan for hardware changes" again.
The new card should then be mounted.

With some motherboards you won't need to do this at all. I'm not sure of the model but my Intel motherboard on my rendering rig seems to support hotswapping without having to go through device manager.

I hope this review has been helpful.

A couple of final points:

It absolutely, definitely works with Sony SXS and SXS-1 cards. I've been using mine with them for a while now. (You may have to download the SXS drivers)
It supports usb interfacing and pci-e interfacing cards.

For this price this is a great product. As far as I know you won't find much better than this for this amount of money.
