This book is great for beginners and i would definetelly recommend it, but DON'T order it together with "Jewellery Making: A Complete Course for Beginners by Jinks McGrath" because although they are from different authors, they are from the same editor and they are pretty much alike. I could not tell you which one to prefer, because they have almost the same structure-comprehensive etc-but they even have a picture the same! So, make your choice as you wish in order not to have two great but similar books in your library.

I borrowed this book from the library twice and realised that I needed one of my own! I have recently started a silver smith course at college and this book is a great reference for basic techniques/tools. It is clearly written with great pictures. The book also contains projects, I've already made plans for two of them :-) The projects are all in a particular style, unfussy and contempory, ring on the front cover gives a good indication of this.

This book on it's own is a very good book and I have no complaints what so ever in it's contents and can recommend it, however, I also purchased the other book by Nicola Hurst "Step by Step jewelry workshop" only to find that it's exactly the same content, the only difference was the outer cover, this was a great disappointment to me.

This is one of the best books I have bought in a long time. Aimed at beginners, not for people with lots of experience. It has lots of good basic 'how to start' and 'what you need' information. Clear and easy to follow instructions. Excellent illustrations, and several really good, new, different and easy to do, projects. Step by step instructions that are clear and concise with excellent photos to illustrate each step. I am at the intermediate stage of learning silversmithing - amateur and evening class - and I found this to be one of the best books I have ever bought. It would be excellent for beginners, I think that is who it is aimed at but is equally good for someone like me who has acquired some skills and needs to improve them. If you like pictures and clear simple step instructions, this is for you.

Bought this book for my partner's birthday. He'd always wanted to try jewellery making and this sounded like the ideal present combined with a jewellery making taster day with the lady herself. He's yet to go on the day but i'm sure it will be brilliant and only I can benefit.
