For those of us of a certain age, Graham Stark was an ubiquitous presence on TV and film for many years. He was an accomplished photographer and a competent character actor. His autobiography is mostly a set of anecdotes, with some entertaining passages but in the end it is curiously uninvolving. His family are virtually invisible. Recent revelations have suggested that he was a much darker character than the jolly clown he portrays himself as, but the book gives no hint of this.

Graham stark had a remarkable career. He worked steadily for over 40 years in a notoriously unsteady industry. He managed this by being versatile: dancer, actor, radio, theatre, TV & film. When work in one area dried up he tried another one, amassing skills along the way. He applied himself to each discipline with the same dedication.

I had the good fortune to meet him briefly when he came to see me at TyneTees TV where I was working on-screen. I can vouch for his courtesy and warmth.

A wonderfully entertaining book by one of those wonderful British character actors that have entertained us for years in dozens of classic movies. I love to read about these people for they have led such varied careers, so much more interesting than the so called stars. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the post war cinema and theatre.
