If you look the reviews of this product, it worked for some people, but for others not. That was done because there are 2 types of TRRS(Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve) headphones. The first one is the iPhone like headphones that have the ground(returning contacts) on the second ring and the microphone on the sleeve, while the second have the ground(returning contacts) on the sleeve and the microphone on the second rind.
This adapter is designed for the i-Phone like (first category) headphones. So what i did was to buy this Fiio LU2 Adapter Cable - use of iPhone specific headphones on different brands of phone and it worked pretty well for my Nokia headphones.
To sum up if your headphones are fully compatible with iPhone the you can buy it and it will work without a problem, but if not, then you have to buy an extra adapter, for example Fiio LU1 Adapter Cable - use iPhone specific headphones on different brands of phone or Fiio LU2 Adapter Cable - use of iPhone specific headphones on different brands of phone or Exspect EX864 iPhone Headphone Adapter, that are designed to use non iPhone headphones with iPhone(they cross the second ring with the sleeve).
Hope i helped, if you have any questions i will be glad to help.
Plugging in my rather good, Amazon-source Audio Technics headset into anything other than my phone meant I had to fiddle with it and pull it out a bit from the 3.5mm 3-pole socket, otherwise the music sounded really strange and echoey. Every time. So annoying.
This fantastic 4-pole splitter allows me to plug my earphone into it and then the other end (marked faintly with a headphone symbol) into my laptop or radio or whatever and it all just works without any fiddling about whatsoever. Brilliant!
I've not plugged the other end marked with a microphone symbol (which lets you plug it into the microphone socket on your PC for use with Skype and the like) as that's not what I got it for, but I'm sure it would work as well as the other plug.
I wish I had found this several years ago, can't live without it now!
+Works fine if you plug a 3pin jack in so you can change between 3pin and 4pin jack headphones without having to remove it.
=too short to be used as extension. That's a plus or minus depending what you need.
=A bit overpriced but at least you are sure the cable wont be leaving the jack while pulling it.
In overall I'd recommend it.
The only things you have to mind:
a. the plug has to be pushed in really well, or there will be no sound at all or just in one ear etc.
b. the plug has to be in in a certain way. 1 in the speaker the other in the mic, it does not work the other way around.
