    Bought for my 2000XL, use it with a 1GB SanDisk CF card (not tried others yet) and OS 1.20. Works great as a non hot swap CF drive as my Zip drive was becoming unreliable. Works great.

    I used this to convert a Akai MPC2000 xl to SD card instead of the factory fitted zip disk.
    No problems at all with using this .

    5.0 out of 5 stars Useful addition to a computer which lacks a card reader. 11 Sept. 2013
    By StephenH - Published on Amazon.com
    This device replaced an older model 35FCREADBK2 purchased through Amazon which had failed. The manufacturer sent this model as a replacement. It has support for virtually all current card types plus a USB port. It is an excellent addition to a computer which lacks a card reader. It uses one motherboard USB header and can provide simultaneous access between different card types, so items can be copied between different media easily. It mounts in a 3.5" slot which used to be for a floppy drive. Since it does not come with a faceplate or adapter for a 5.25" slot, be sure you have a 3.5" slot available before you order. It also provides a front panel USB slot which is handy.

    While this is more expensive than some of the alternatives, the 2 year warranty makes the additional cost easier to bear. In my case, the 2 year warranty was good as StarTech replaced the defective device without problem except waiting for the replacement to arrive. I had not realized how much I had come to depend on this device.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, but a few minor issues 19 May 2014
    By JL - Published on Amazon.com

    This card reader does the job, no issues upon installation.

    My unit's USB slot is somehow tight, and makes it tough to plug in a USB drive. It's even tougher to unplug - I have to really pull on the USB stick to get it back. I'm not kidding, it's a minor tug-of-war contest every time. You would think with a standard USB connector this shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully it gets better after multiple uses.

    Also note that the SD card plugs in right side up (as opposed to face down on other brands/models), although half of the SD card still sticks out. Not a major issue.

    The green power light stays on as long as your power supply is on, even though the computer is shutdown. Minor annoyance/feature depending on your perspective.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Very Handy Tool 26 Oct. 2013
    By Marc Mulkey - Published on Amazon.com

    As a photography hobbyist, I tend to take a lot of pictures. I always got tire of having to pull out my external card reader, plug it into the USB drive, cussing it because the cord was too short....but it always worked pretty good and downloaded the images quickly from the SD card. After that card reader quit working, I started searching for a replacement. Which is when I came upon the StarTech.com 3.5-Inch Front Bay 22-In-1 USB 2.0 Internal Multi Media Memory Card Reader. I have only had occasion to use it a few times, but it works very well. It was shipped quickly and arrived in good shape. This unit is very easy to install if you have a least a modicum of experience with installing external drives to your computer and hooking things up to your motherboard. Once installed, I turned the computer on, the driver software automatically installed and it worked immediately.

    I had also purchased the StarTech 3.5-Inch to 5.25-Inch Floppy Mounting Kit Bracket (Black Plastic), which I realized later that I didn't need. If you have a slot already available for a floppy drive, you probably won't need this bracket.

    I would highly recommend this product, especially if you have several different types of memory cards that you use for various applications.

    3.0 out of 5 stars It works (at least for now) & the cable is long enough 7 Sept. 2015
    By videobruce - Published on Amazon.com

    Notes;
    This uses a Alcor AU6479 chipset.
    Depending on your MB and/or the P/S, the power LED will be lit even when the PC is off ( actually standby), unless the mechanical power switch on the P/S or the power strip is turned off.

    Pros;

    1. Power & activity LED's don't blind you, just bright enough to see,
    2. Cable is long enough to jacks towards the rear of the MB even when the unit is mounted in upper bays of a mid tower,
    3. Metal case completely encases unit & it has a protection grommet for the cable,
    4. USB2 port included (but see below).

    Cons;

    1. CF card connector is upside down & it's too close to the front. The card extends out too far (both are common problems),
    2. USB port requires excessive force to insert and remove flash drives & it's upside down.
    3. Unknown name from another Chinese company with a 'throw away when it breaks' product,
    4. Apparent high failure rate for these internal card readers.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Loose CF slot makes for bent pins 28 Jan. 2015
    By RobRud - Published on Amazon.com
    Verified Purchase
    The Star-Tech had no real guides, so it is too easy to put a CF card in crooked, and bend a pin. I could bend them back out with a small screwdriver, but then another pin would bend with the next use. Bought a Sabrent version of this device -- The CF card slot on the Sabrent seems to have better guides, to keep the pins from bending.
