Product Description

Style Name:Mini DisplayPort - Black

Product Description

The MDP2HDS Adapter converts Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with audio pass-through support, enabling you to connect a desktop or laptop computer that is equipped with Mini DisplayPort A/V output to an HDMI monitor, projector, or display.

Unlike a passive adapter, the MDP2HDS actively converts single mode and dual mode DisplayPort output, which is ideal for graphics cards that do not output dual mode/multi-mode (DP++) signals, such as ATI™ Eyefinity cards.

The Mini DP to HDMI adapter is compatible with Intel Thunderbolt™, when connected directly to a supporting DisplayPort over Thunderbolt™ I/O port.

Backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Im using this for my 3 monitor Eyefinity setup and I needed the 3rd monitor to be display port to HDMI and it done the job well. Its all up and running and I got this for a cheap price. I will update my review in the future also because I haven't found any flaws what so ever and I highly doubt I will.

If you want to setup an Eyfinity desktop with 3 screens this is what you need. There is much confusion on the net as to what cables and converters are required. If you have a card such as the AMD R9270 series that has the following connections (2x DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x Standard Display Port) then you must use an 'ACTIVE' Display Port as one of the outputs. It simply will not work effectively with 2x DVI and 1x HDMI. You must either use 2x DVI and 1x Display Port or 1x DVI, 1x HDMI & 1x Display Port. Naturally you will also need to make sure you have the right cables that go to your screens or TV's. I struggled with another device only to find out that it was not an 'ACTIVE' Display Port Adapter, the StarTech adapter worked straight out the box. Once set-up you can then use the 'AMD Catalyst Control Centre' to set 'Hotkeys' to 'Disable' the other screens when you are doing something that only requires one screen ie: a non Eyefinity enabled game.

I recently bought a new 24" widescreen monitor and wanted to make use of the mini displayports on my ATI eyefinity card to hook it up as a third monitor. I had mistakenly bought a cheap 'passive' HDMI-mini displayport adapter and as a result i encountered the infamous 'cannot save display settings' issue when trying to activate any of my monitors as a 3rd. Turns out you need one of displayports to be 'active' and this requires a different type of adapter (most of which seem to be very expensive)

This StarTech adapter worked right out of the box and is significantly cheaper that a lot of the other 'active' adapters on the market. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for this adapter we shall assume you know why some adapters work with Eyefinity and some don't.

This does!

Perfect!

I bought this as part of a 3rd monitor setup for my PC which has an AMD R9 270 inside it. The product itself has no faults and works perfectly but there are some minor technical issues with getting it to work with the graphics card though, I'll give you guys some tips if you're in the same or similar boat as me.

Once you've got the adapter you should almost expect it to not work when you connect it up, the first thing is to not panic and not get angry. What you have to do is change the connections of your other monitors to different slots until it works, trial and error basically. Eventually you will get to the point where it is working and you will be fine after that.

Works about 10% of the time. It never shows anything on screen until I unplug it and plug it back in after a PC restart. It will either show full HD but at 30Hz or 1024x768 @ 60Hz.. End up having to replug it atleast 5 or 6 times before I get 1080p at 60Hz, not something I should have to do. The cable itself and the connectors look fine so must be something internal causing it. I would avoid as the cost is on the higher end of the adapters and the quality doesnt seem to be that much better than the others.

On the plus side, it is active so I can get 3 monitors working at once... eventually

I could not get this to work at all with my AMD 5850 card. I tried multiple different monitors and all resulted in the computer stuttering every few seconds as it seemed to try to connect, rendering the computer unusable.

Returned and replaced with a Sapphire 44000-02-40R Active Display Port DVI Cable, which worked right out of the box

Works perfectly between my Surface Pro 4 dock station and monitor. The lead for this purpose needs to be an 'Active' lead to prevent the monitor going to sleep unexpectedly. Much cheaper than the Microsoft lead, although this one does need an HDMI to HDMI lead as well..
