Stay on target.
Control the most advanced starfighters and outstanding pilots in the galaxy. In X-Wing Miniatures Game, you take the role of squad leader and command a group of merciless Imperial or daring Rebel pilots in furious ship-to-ship space combat. In addition to the fully painted miniatures, the game includes high quality components that help keep you keep track of stats and control your ships, from Manoeuvre Dials, and matching Manoeuvre Templates to Mission Tokens and dice.
Fully Painted Miniatures
Miniatures include a Resistance X-wing and two First Order TIE fighters.
Manoeuvre Dials and Templates
Use Manoeuvre Dials and Templates to decide turn order and flight paths.
Ship Cards show the point values and statistics for your ships.
No mission will ever play the same way twice, thanks to a range of customisation options, varied manoeuvres, and possible combat outcomes. Damage, for example, is determined through dice and applied in the form of a shuffled Damage Deck. For some hits your fighter sustains, you'll draw a card that assigns a special handicap. Was your targeting computer damaged, affecting your ability to acquire a lock on the enemy? Perhaps an ill-timed weapon malfunction will limit your offensive capabilities. Or worse yet, your pilot could be injured, compromising his ability to focus on the life-and-death struggle in which he is engaged.
Star Wars X-Wing: The Force Awakens Core Set includes everything you need to begin your battles, with scenarios, cards, and fully assembled and painted ships. What's more, Star Wars: X-Wing's quick-to-learn rule-set establishes the foundation for a system that can be expanded with your favourite ships and characters from the Star Wars universe.

The rules are simple, gameplay is fairly fast, and the components are beautiful. And it's basically 'playing with Star Wars toys' but with a rule system. However, the core set only gives you three ships and you'll soon want to expand your squads. This is where it gets expensive. In fact, many people are investing in two core sets and at least one of each expansion.
And with Wave 2 around the corner, offering A-Wings and TIE Interceptors, along with big ships like the Falcon and Slave I, it's more than likely you'll be looking at an outlay of ~£100 for a set you'll be happy with. Fantasy Flight Games know what they're doing with this one.
The miniatures are superb for 'factory' produced models, the printed card items are excellent as is the whole packaging and presentation.
The rules are easy to follow, maybe because I'm an 'old hand', but I had a game with my wife, and she found them easy to digest (the 'simple' starter rules are maybe a bit too simple).
Some ambiguity is often a trademark of such miniatures games, but, there is a wealth of information on 'the net' and the simple bit of advice, with is absolutely true, is to read ALL of the rules, don't 'skim' through them no matter what. The answers to any questions about game play are to be found in the rules themselves.
Be warned though, if you get hooked, it will be a money pit (again, much to the exasperation of my wife!).
If you are a fan of mini's games and Star Wars give it try, its fun, quick to set up (no assembling and painting), and easy to learn, possibly hard to learn to employ all of the extra Upgrade Cards effectively.
By the way, my wife won the first game, obliterated 4 TIE's for one shield on one X-Wing gone!!
You build a squadron of ships based on a points value, small dogfights, certainly tournaments are 100 pts, But if you are just having a friendly game you can choose any points agreed between two players. Epic battle and can be in excess of 400 points. You choose ships belonging to one of three factions, rebels, imperial or scum and villainy. Pilots and their ships cost X amount of points then you can give them upgrades that also cost points.
Movement is handled using movement dials and you choose a manouvre in secret then reveal it at the appropriate time based on the pilot skill level. You move your ships using a template based on the manouvre you chose.
Then combat is determined by the pilot skill level with the highest skill shooting first.
After a few games you will end up just playing straight up dogfights trying to find the best combo, but there are scenarios in the core rules and expansion packs that will keep you occupied for months / years.
I love this game so much I ended up buying the original core set and a shed load of expansion packs trying to find the best combination of ships for a tournament.
Get lost in the intricacies of ship to ship battle. Amazing models with great paintwork, simple enough rules and a real feel of the star wars world.
Have played Armada more, purely because that's what I have, but both are well thought out games with a lot fun to be had and a clear love of the OT films thoughout.
The game itself is just right for any fan of Star Wars and associate action games.
Great for kids and adults alike as rules are easy to pick up and can be adapted to age range of players.
