If you've been reading the X-Wing series up to now, and are wondering where the plot goes after the obviously cliff-hanging previous book, this is most definitely the book for you. It takes the story sewn in the previous books and runs with it like Ben Johnson with a firework down his socks.
Full of amazing imagery, and the now-standard Stackpole spacefighting scenes, the book is a brilliant continuation to the X-wing series. Luckily, however, there is a nice explanatory bit at the beginning, for those who stepped out for the first part :)
I'd recommend the whole x-wing series to anyone who likes fast-paced, heart-pumping reading.

THE STORY:
Three years after 'Return of the Jedi', Ysanne Isard has taken control of the world of Thyferra, but the fledgling New Republic cannot interfere with a sovereign government. Rogue Squadron resigns their positions and begins a hopeless campaign to bring Isard to justice, throwing their twelve pilots against, amongst other things, the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya.
WHAT'S GOOD:
I loved the idea of this book, with the Rogue slowing building their forces and gathering small victories in an attempt to bring down a far more powerful foe. I could go on for a long time, listing all the good things, but instead I'll just tell you that if you read none of the others, then read this X-Wing book. Look out for cameos by Huff Darklighter (Biggs' dad), Poe, Elscol Loro and Sixtus Quin (all from the X-Wing comics) and Wuher (the bartender in the Mos Eisley cantina).
WHAT'S BAD:
I didn't like the amiguity of Isard's end at all, way too 'The End?'-cliche style (and of course, since the publication of 'Isard's Revenge', we know that our fears of an implausible villain come-back have been realised).

michael a. stackpole is the best author in starwars, while every one writes about luke and leia (and so on), stackpole wirtes about the little people, in this new adventure you find out about rouge squadron in their retirement fighting to stop ysanne isard, an imperial inteligence superbrain, whilst trying to help coruscant with the deadly krytos virus, you see the lives of the squadron, wedge, tycho, corran, inyri, riv, nawara, gavin, aril, rhysati, asyr, elscol, mirax, iella and winter, also introducing the newest character, Booster terrik, what will he think of his daughter's new boyfriend.
this covers crutial points of the starwars saga, how do they get the lusankya and the errant venture, this book also sees the return of old friends but also the departure of old and new friends, read it its te best.

this book covers the bacta war (surpised) it also covers the strange predicament of corran and mirax's relation ship with the newly introduced Booster terrik (mirax's dad) along with how the errant venture comes into the star wars universe as well as the fact that written by michael a. stackpole the best action star wars author. not to mention the antics of wedge antillies, tycho celchu, nawara ven, shiel, gavin darklighter and the rest of rouge squadron as well as the return of the ace pilot bror jace as they fight Ysanne Isard on her new capital world of thyferra, the only place in the galaxy where bacta is created, this is undoutably one of the best starwars books there is, they may be classed as off-mainstream but there is no doubt that it's good
