As many other buyers I bought this album only because of the incredible version MECO made after the Star Wars Theme. It is still as powerful as back then in the 70's. Still, after all these years a pleasure to enyoy. The other song here included is boring. I have checked other aggiornamentos Meco made after other film music but this one is the only one that stands the test of time.

Yes, it's all a bit cheesy, but if you enjoy the era of late 1970's Disco the first 15 minute track is totally wonderful (a bit like Star Sound meets Hooked on Classics meets James Last). Top notch orchestration and high production values.

The second track, Other Galactic Funk is, as another reviewer has mentioned, a bit of a novelty catch... in effect a long drum solo lesson in rhythm by renowned session drummer Allan Schwartzberg - takes a bit of getting used to as does not seem to go anywhere at first, but actually becomes quite mesmerising and enjoyable on subsequent listens.

Firstly buy this cheap, my copy was £4.99 I wouldn't pay more than that. Why? Basically once you've heard tracks 1 & 2 then the remaining 2 tracks are just the star wars theme 7" & 12" and well track 1 covers that ground already.
So what have we got here? It honestly feels like an extended 12" with track 1 being side A, track 2 the b-side & the other 2 tracks (3 & 4) as a single for radio & disco.
It's interesting that there actually was a full album once available with other sci fi themes on it as well as these, it was available on the same record label with the same sleeve too & seems to have been deleted before this reissue. I'm tempted to think this is done mainly at this time to cash in on the new Star Wars the Force Awakens movie.
Honestly, don't pay more than £4.99 or but the triple CD Disco inferno which has various artists & the Meco Star wars cover included here on disc 1 of that box set.

Just when I thought this long Star Wars hit was no longer available; well, here it is as though to say "I told you so!" Meco had some imagination converting galactic themes to disco dance hits; all be it at a time when many other artists or musicians were doing similar work with other types of music.
This very pleasant 1977 hit which may sound somewhat anonymous these days should still get many people onto a dance floor while the "Other galactic Funk" although pleasant sounds more jazzy.

I remember the main Star Wars track from back in my school days and wishing I had a copy. And now I do. This is pure reminiscence stuff. Very late 70s early 80s feel to the tracks but I love the jawa and R2-D2 sound bites within the tracks. Well worth a listen.

I had the Star Wars single on vinyl from 1978, until a recent disaster whereby I found it leaning against a hot pipe in my flat, bent and deformed by the heat. Oh how I cried...
Then I realised it is still available. While having it on CD doesn't compare to having the original print on vinyl, it did make me feel a little better.
The highlight here is not the SW theme (though it is pretty dope), but the original b side, Other Galactic Funk (which was just called "Funk" on the single I had).
If you're a funk fan or a Star Wars fan, you'd be a wookie to miss this.

Star Wars and other Galactic Funk, was a commercial Disco venture that came on the back of the success of the original Star Wars movie released the same year. And in the UK the Meco single Star Wars theme charted while the movie was in the cinema. The movie helped the single, and the single helped the movie. The single wasn't intended to promote the movie but it did. The theme was written by American film composer John Williams and this release by Meco is a faithful Disco arrangement with suitable sound effects. The arrangement is powerful and exciting and although some might think this was a cheesy bit of commercialism, I think it's actually a very good version of the great original theme.
This is the definitive release of the associated Star Wars recordings by Meco. It contains the Star Wars suite with main themes from the score as track one. Track two is called other galactic funk and explores further the Star Wars main composition. Track three is the original 7" radio single edit. Track four is the brilliant extended original 12" mix. The whole album lasts 39 and half minutes.
There was a wealth of musicians and instruments on these recordings. There are over 50 violinists, 8 violas, 12 Cellos, 9 trumpets, 11 trombones, 9 on reeds, 5 French horns, 14 on guitars and then there are synthesizers, keyboards, percussion, drums, and auto harps.
Meco went on to use the same formula for other films such as Superman and The Wiz and there was a compilation best of album available on CD a few years ago which is very expensive. This however is the best way to get this classic Disco tribute to the original Star Wars score.
