Star Wars: The Last Jedi
In Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.
Rey is a Jakku scavenger, a survivor toughened by life on a harsh desert planet. When the fugitive droid BB-8 appeals to her for help, Rey finds herself drawn into a galaxy-spanning conflict. Despite dismissing herself as 'no one,' she learns that her life is being shaped by the mysterious power of the Force.
A dark warrior strong with the Force, Kylo Ren commands First Order missions with a temper as fiery as his unconventional lightsaber. As a leader of the First Order and a student of Supreme Leader Snoke, he seeks to destroy the New Republic, the Resistance and the legacy of the Jedi.
Poe Dameron is a commander in the Resistance’s Starfighter Corps and one of Leia Organa’s most-trusted operatives. The son of a rebel fighter pilot and a rebel commando, Poe grew up on stories of Alliance campaigns. A decorated X-wing pilot, he can fly anything – which is fortunate given how often his headstrong nature leads him into trouble.

The space battle and escape was overlong, The Empire Strikes Back did it much better, the effects work was top class, great CGI and good set design and costumes I just felt a little let down by the storyline and how it played out, maybe a repeat viewing will get me more entertainment, sometimes expectations can cloud your judgment on things.
What is in no doubt is the image quality in the disc is fantastic, the sound quality on the other hand is lacking in the bass department, where is the 20hzand under bass, it’s all above 30hz, indeed 40hz and up, its mid bass not low frequency bass and it is an issue affecting many Disney films of recent years, perhaps they are doing one transfer for disc and streaming or catering to the sound bar crowd, on a premium UHD product we expect the ultimate picture AND sound, this disc fails in the sound department despite the mix being active and engaging, it need low frequency bass too.
Still worth buying, I knock a few stars off for the sound quality and the storyline but mainly for the lack of bass in the sound quality as storyline is subjective.
The main theme of this film is summed up in a line from Kylo Ren: let the past die. This is a Star Wars film that wants to tell you to expect new and different things from both it and the films to follow. Which is great. Except it does mean there isn’t much satisfaction to be had. Big plans come to nothing, sub-plots end up having no effect on the rest of the film. Look, I get why that’s the case, but you can’t deny the effect that has on the audience.
But, at the end of the day, it’s hugely entertaining. There’s some great action scenes, the characters are still strong, and it was great to finally see Luke in the new films. I especially like what they did with his character, it was unexpected but such a nice surprise! And, speaking of surprises, this film kept me guessing; I didn’t know where the story was going until it got there, which is too rare these days.
So it may be my least favourite Star Wars film, but I still love watching it. You should watch it too.
