About the author

Based in Brooklyn, New York, New York Times bestselling author Charles Soule is a writer of novels (graphic and otherwise), comics, screenplays and stories of all types. He plays the guitar fairly well and speaks at least one language.
Born in the Midwest, he spent his early years in Michigan before moving to Asia, where he spent time living in Hong Kong, Manila and Singapore. Stints on the East Coast followed, before settling in New York (apparently) for the long haul.
He is the author of the novels ANYONE and THE ORACLE YEAR, published by HarperCollins' Harper Perennial imprint, as well as LIGHT OF THE JEDI, launch title for STAR WARS:THE HIGH REPUBLIC. In addition to novels, he is a prolific writer of comics, including many titles for Marvel, DC, Image and other comics publishers, such as Undiscovered Country, Death of Wolverine, She-Hulk, Darth Vader, Lando, Curse Words, Letter 44 and long runs on Daredevil, Swamp Thing and Inhuman. - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 July 2018After so many years of Star Wars fandom I still couldn't get a grip on this Lando character - he was ok to me but I always considered him in a league "B" compared to the others. Seeing him getting a full volume in the Marvel-series made me giving him another chance and what a good decision it proved to be! What I missed of him in the movies and books so far I found in the comics: his character shines in the mess he created in the story, quite dramatic events and decisions to be made and the lore deepens as well.
Loved it all, the storytelling, the artwork and the whole atmosphere of this all!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 March 2016This is a great story from our other smooth talking smuggler shame there isnt any more stories on him like this I personally would of loved a comic portryal of how lando met up with Han, got into some scrapes and eventually ended up losing the Falcon to him

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2016Great story, don't want to overhype it if you're considering buying this but it's probably my favourite new canon story thus far! Definitely consider picking this up if you're a fan of the franchise

Well worth picking up!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2020It was an interesting read and it has made me want to see how he develops into the administrator of Cloud City. I understand how his little stunt at the Battle of Taanab must have been so paradigm shifting.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 May 2017A great addition to the star wars franchise and the new star wars cannon stories.

Lando Calrissian is heavily indebted to Papa Toren. He needs a major score in order to settle things. And Papa Toren has found just the right opportunity -- an expensive pleasure ship owned by a rich imperial that would more than make up for the amount Lando owes. The ship is in a lightly guarded shipyard getting a refit. As an added plus, the ship is reportedly filled with treasure that Lando can keep should he succeed. All Lando has to do is steal the ship and get it back to Toren. Lando begins assembling a team to pull off the heist. In a scene that reminds one of Danny Ocean, Lando organizes his crew and lays out the plan for taking the ship. Included in his team are his faithful companion Lobot; Korin, an antiquities expert; and twin warriors Aleksin and Pavol. Lando's perfect plan falls predictably apart and he and his team are left to deal with Imperial guards, one of the galaxy's top bounty hunters, and the ancient Sith secrets stored within the ship they learn belongs to none other than Emperor Palpatine himself.
The artwork in this book, by Alex Maleev, is fantastic. It's not the realistic style that most of the other Marvel Star Wars books have, but it's very well-done, and most importantly, it fits the book very well. Perhaps just as impressive as the line art is the coloring work of Paul Mounts, who does a great job of accentuating the pictures.
The writing and storyline are perfect. The dialog is entertaining. Charles Soule advances the storyline and mixes in several subplots. He also does an excellent job of switching from scene to scene and knowing what to leave out and what to include to keep the storyline moving along. The characters are interesting and developed. Overall, this book is a great read and rivals the Han Solo series for the best Star Wars book that Marvel has produced.
luke burlockReviewed in Canada on 10 November 20165.0 out of 5 stars A Highly recommended stand alone sci fi tale.
In my opinion, it is so far the best of the new star wars comics. It correctly portrays a younger lando, while showing off his well known charm and cunning. It is a fast paced, stand alone story with memorable characters. It actually takes the charcter of Lobot and gives him a heartfelt and tragic backstory.

Wie man Lando kennt. Nicht sonderlich überraschende aber charmante kleine Geschichte. Die Charaktere sind nicht gerade vielschichtig aber glaubwürdig und der Geschichte dienlich.
