I bought a pair of these mci stands so that I could have a acoustic recording set-up in my bedroom: an existing chord mic stand supporting my SE Electronics SE2200a mk2, one of these stands supporting a Rode NT-1A and the other supporting an SE Electronics SE-X1. It is by no means a fancy outfit but these two stands do the job admirably.

As a designer, I appreciate the truly well-made things in life but I can be a tight-fisted a*se and it is fair to say that these are not particularly well-made. These are cheap, cheerful and useful in the studio when you just set it up and leave them alone. They even come with a cable clip each! For stage use, you're better off looking elsewhere.

My old mic stand had reached the end of it's working life i.e. it's broken, so I had to buy a new mic stand.

Well I wasn't expecting much as this is probably one of the cheapest stands on Amazon. As expected the quality is poor, but then you get what you pay for. It's very light weight and poorly made. I really can't see it lasting very long but who knows. One problem is because it is so light it's not very stable especially with a relatively heavy mic attached. You don't get the mic clip/holder by the way in case you haven't studied the advert closely.

I only have myself to blame on this one. I really should have spent more. Doh!

You know when you order something quite cheap and expect it to be a bit rubbish, well I thought that’s what I was doing here but I am genuinely and pleasantly surprised that this is actually a decent bit of kit.

OK, hands up it’s not quite as sturdy as some that I have used but for £15 or there abouts this is a bargain.

I use it with a standard dynamic mic (the excellent Behringer M8500) and it feels sturdy and none of the joins slip. All the knobs and twidly bist work and are easy to use although the twisty sleeve bit that locks the inner and outer vertical shafts was pretty tight and needed some working initially.

The boom arm stays held in firm and overall feels reasonably well weighted.

I do totally expect this to last for years in a studio setting where it would be set up and left alone, however less convinced of its long term performance when gigging etc… where stuff gets thrown about. To be frank though when I do get gigging again I will just buy a spare as I have seen expensive ones broken when having an amp thrown on them just the same.

This is great value for £16. I can't understand some of the poor reviews. It stays up, it's stable, my only gripe being that the top half of the vertical was so far rammed into the bottom half to save an inch off the box, that it took ages to pull it out. But I only had to do that first time I used it. I play bass and I've got a big belly, also use heavy Wireless Mics. There is a small counterweight at the back end of the boom, and I can balance it well enough so that my stomach doesn't stop me getting close enough. It takes a bit of grip to tighten the boom up, too, but it's not all that difficult.

Been gigging with this, no problems at all so far. Which is more than I can say for every other boom mic stand I've ever used.

Basically what I wanted. Pretty sturdy - gets a little off balance sometimes, but a little fiddle and you can deny gravity perfectly well. Fits the mic I bought no problem. I only use it at home at the moment, but it's perfectly portable too. Good standing and sitting though, doesn't always stay in the exact position you need when you bend the arm down. It swings away on occasion and you have to re-adjust the feet again. For the price no real complaints.

I like it. I really do. Very much though, this is a studio piece of equipment. Set it up, leave it alone, and it will do its job admirably. Take it on stage with you, and it will fall over like a drunk at last orders. This is because the legs don't fold out flat enough.
It looks very good too - far better than the price tag would suggest. To be honest, I'm glad it wasn't any cheaper. This is just on the correct side of being as cheap as it can whilst still performing its "job" - much further the wrong way down the scale, and it wouldn't.
I'd recommend this stand for anyone working with polite, studio musicians.

To be honest I wasn't expecting so high quality, for this price. I'm really happy to own 2 of them.

This may be a case of you get what you pay for. The stand is exceptional for the price. I only have one small niggle in that it doesn't always stay exactly where I want it. Sometimes it will sink when mounted with a large diaphragm condenser mic no matter how much i adjust it. However, after messing with it's several adjustable fixtures, I can make it work. Perfect budget item but if you're looking for high spec this obviously isn't the product for you!
