Book Description

Stage Directions: Writing on Theatre 1970-2008 is a charming and insightful collection of writings that forms an essential commentary on Michael Frayn's life and work.

About the Author

Michael Frayn was born in London in 1933 and began his career as a journalist on the Guardian and the Observer. His novels include Towards the End of the Morning, The Trick of It and A Landing on the Sun. Headlong was shortlisted for the 1999 Booker Prize, Whitbread Novel Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction. His thirteen plays range from Noises Off to Copenhagen, and he has translated a number of works, mostly from Russian. He is married to the biographer and critic Claire Tomalin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steady account of slippery truth. 8 May 2015
By Lasse Rabenius - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Among the many commented plays by this author I was most interested Frayns drama Copenhagen. And was surpriced to find that his Stage Directons account was more interesting than the drama itself. The complex relationship between those attending the historical stage, i e their differing accounts, and the truth of what really happend that year 1942, is bery well analysed by Frayn. As what can be said and whar only guessed at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating writer who keeps you interested 19 Nov. 2015

With the exception of Noises Off, I found his plays less interesting than this book about them! He's a very smooth and engaging writer.
