This game is worth playing but could have been a great deal better. The story, atmosphere and character voice acting is excellent and the premise that you are investigating your own murder is intriguing. The central characters are interesting and well developed for a video game and some of the skills such as possession and teleporting have a lot of potential. The graphics are atmospheric and walking through (some) walls and doors helps this although it is frustrating when you come across an area you cannot pass despite the story trying to explain this.

The are a few issues however, The game is short with a large proportion spent watching cut scenes. There are a number of side missions as well but there seemed little incentive to complete them as there was no reward other than finding out why a deceased character was upset. Many of the living and dead characters offer no value other than repeating two stock phrases and the challenge there is identifying the ones required to progress the story and ignoring the rest. Then there are the demon encounters meant to inject danger and tension into the quest but instead swiftly get repetitive and annoying.

I am very frustrated with this game as it is one of the few original concepts I have come across and any game where you are able to possess a cat should be supported. Although I wanted to find the killer it was frustrating at times and when completed I see little incentive to return.

Criminal-turned cop Ronan O'Connor is on the trail of notorious serial killer, 'The Bell Killer'. He pursues him to an apartment building. Without waiting for back-up, Ronan rushes in. After a struggle, he is overpowered and sent through the window, falling to the street below; barely surviving. The Bell Killer returns to the streets, picks up Ronan's gun and finishes him off with several bullets. In ghostly form, Ronan learns that in order to leave limbo and reunite with his wife in the afterlife, he must solve The Bell Killer case.

Solving the case with the limitation of being a ghost would be impossible. Luckily, he finds a young psychic-medium girl called Joy whose abilities allow her to see and communicate with him. Although reluctant to team up, Ronan convinces them they need each other and share similar goals. Ronan needs to resolve the case and see his wife again, whereas Joy's Mum is missing and is in danger of the Bell Killer.

Since you are a ghost, you can pass through objects, but have several limitations. You cannot enter or exit buildings without going through an open door or window because each building in Salem has been consecrated. Once inside, you can pass through closed doors, unless they are blocked by ghostly objects. These ghostly objects are also scattered around the outdoor environments, so in the end; it doesn't play too different from other (non-ghost) games.

Another one of your ghostly abilities is possession. Once you have entered a living person's body, you can mind read them which gives you a couple of pieces of dialog. For the average person, it's just a throwaway comment, but this can give you clues if you are at a scene, either by directly reading their thoughts, or by viewing objects more closely through their eyes.

The PC version of MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT is on a hiding to nothing right from the start, when you first encounter the abysmally clumsy UI. No effort whatsoever has been made to make the PC experience a smooth one and this frustrates and annoys throughout the game. And then there are the graphics to consider, which are below par when compared to other games from 2014, and the absence of any physics, which is also a disappointment. The gameplay itself is thoroughly unremarkable, the city of Salem is a dull and lifeless place, and the combat (a horrible QT-based system that requires the mashing of random keys and mouse buttons) is laughably poor. Basically you spend most of your time in MSS pixel hunting with the occasional button-spamming session thrown in. So what’s good about it? Well, the premise behind the game is an interesting one and the story involving enough (just) to keep me playing through to the end. The voice acting is good throughout, and you get to play as a cat, which is cool. Sadly, however, the opportunity to make a good game out of these positive aspects has been missed. 2.25/5

This is a really fun game to play with a number of nice mechanics (a favourite being able to possess a cat to get into certain areas). The only negatives for me really was that the game seemed quite short (I felt like I was just getting the hang of the mechanics and it was already at the last stage) and, due to the very linear plot, it doesn't lend itself to any replay. But given the price I paid for the game it was lots of fun. I imagine I'll play it again one day when I've forgotten what happened the last time I played it. It's a huge shame that there isn't going to be any DLC or a sequel for it based on what I've read on the internet.
