Before the 'Power Of Love' got into everyone's heads back in 1985, I got into HL&TN back in 1984 some 10 months earlier before they cracked it in the U.K. There was a certain song that hit the airwaves on Sunday's Top 40 called 'If this is it' It only just made the Top 40 (No.39 I recall) but wow what a catchy simple pop tune! not normally my taste but made me smile anyway, so I bought the album the very next day and was taken back how good it was, and each track different in there own way.
At this point the album had already been out for a year or so and any previous singles didn't really break them into the U.K charts until 'If this is it' was released.
The album is mixed from start to finish in a positive way and every track is excellent, their harmonising is just sooo good!
All the tracks are great but my favourites are:
Heart of rock n' roll
Heart & Soul
Bad is Bad
I want a new drug (Very similar to 'Power Of Love')
Walking on a thin line
Finally Found a Home
If this is it
The only song I am less fond of is the last track on the album, it doesn't feel like that it belongs on the album IMO, perhaps this one was written and recorded first in its albums early demos or left over from a previous album.
However this album is excellent, most would disagree and think 'Fore' is the better album. Yes that is also good and did commercially very well but overall their unique sound had changed some what and a lot of the songs of that album were quite samey apart from about three tracks the real Rock(N' Roll)aspect associated with previous albums had gone/changed.
So if you are going to buy any 'Huey Lewis & The News' albums make it this one!!
