The mythical history was explained perfectly, for me, but the arranged marriage part was a new spin on a story in this genre (many other stories talk about it but do not explain as this book does). I loved how the reader got to grow with witch, Faith and go through her highs and lows as she tries to discover herself away from her circle.
I love the sub characters especially the confused fairy, Lily and I would really love to know what happens with her in the next book as it is not your typical YA storyline with this one!
And lastly, I laughed, hyperventilated and cried with the relationship with Rohan but I loved the way the author showed how they both grew in the forbidden relationship but I must admit I wasn't prepared for the twist in the end.
Highly recommended for YA fans who are bored with the usual human / vampire romance novels and want a fresh, unique new YA fantasy read!
First, I really liked this book. It had a great storyline, and a good cast of supernatural creatures. It is a decidedly different concept from the supernatural/human love stories.
Now, that being said, I got a little confused at times simply because of following the particulars of each different supernatural group. The text was a little bit "busy", but done in such a way as to pull you in and make you want to keep reading. I liked how the character grows, physically and mentally, throughout the book. I am ready to find out what happens next!
Overall, this is a great read, especially if you like your paranormal romances a bit different. :)
Thanks to the author for letting me review!
Fairies, (an interesting twist) witches, werewolves, vampires, all coagulate to add in this boiling pot of characters.
Forbidden love opposites from different sects, Faith & Rohan set out on a dangerous sequence with all the probabilities against them.
The romantically aspects between Faith & Rohan, nicely woven in you actually feel for the characters.
I have to say Split Blood comes across as an adventurous attempt to add new and different elements to a genre that is slowly wearing thin.
This book takes the obsession with the dark and mystical side to a new dimension in Split Blood: The Ancient Codex fantasy romantic tale.-EK Ellis

Star-crossed lovers Faith and Rohan are chased by everything unimaginable. All each of them want is time together and to not be held to a future they did not chose. Louise Herman, author of The Ancient Codex, has begun readers' exploration into a counterworld of our own. This was a fairly easy read. However, there were times that is was over narrated. We've all read books that stumbled at times but this one does not lose too much of its charm at those moments...along with minor gramatical errors.
Faith and her sister Raven have been kept in the dark regarding their special legacy within the world of humans and supernaturals. "A world filled with magic, witches, werewolves, vampires and fairies trying to exist in the modern 21st Century." Not only that but their futures have already been decided for them.
In flies Rohan, irresistible succubus. Uh oh! Didn't anyone read their Ancient Codex homework? This isn't allowed. But with the help of all their modern thinking friends who fight witch, vampire, fairy, and werewolf racism lines, their attraction will have a chance to be born and grow.
There will be six books in the Split Blood series. Book #2 expected to release November 2013.
To learn more about Faith and Rohan's ancestors you can read Blood Moon.
While at school she meets Rohan, a vampire and feels herself drawn to him both heart and soul although they both know this wrong (inter-circle relationships are forbidden). Both knowing that what they feel for each other they hide their growing relationship from others until one day they are seen.
Faith and Rohan decide that their love means more to them than anything else so they run off together so that they can be together forever, hiding from the Elders and then one day they are given information that will change them forever.
I really enjoyed this book right from the beginning. I grew attached to Faith and Rohan's love story seeing how they choose love over law and would do anything so that they could stay together. The story moved along perfectly with no gaps or too much information, and there were enough events that took place to keep you enthralled. Without giving away any of the story because that wouldn't be fun, there is one major decision that Faith has to make regarding something that will set a whole other slew of events to take place throughout the story and is very interesting to say the least J I am definitely looking forward to the second book in this series to see what happens next!
