Product description

From the Inside Flap

"Thought-provoking! It will inspire as well as motivate the reader to consider politics, or at least democracy in a whole new light. The authors have given us reasons for being part of the solution, not just the problem. If you're willing to create more than your own future, read this book."
CLAUDINE SCHNEIDER
FORMER CONGRESSWOMAN, RHODE ISLAND
In this profound and revolutionary work, veteran social activists Corinne McLaughlin and Gordon Davidson shift the focus of political dialogue from the "evening news" to the hidden spiritual causes of world affairs. We begin to understand what events like the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Clarence Thomas hearings, and the national health crisis can tell us about deeper forces at work--including karma, reincarnation, and the "soul of nations." The key is recognizing the Divine hand behind human evolution. In the face of profound human crises, we learn to ask what spiritual lessons are being taught. SPIRITUAL POLITICS shows that each individual's inner work--meditation, prayer, visualization--can affect outer events. There is something each of us can do right here, right now, to change the world. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is an important book, not so much because of its details, but because of its being in existence at all, rather as the flying machines of Leonardo da Vinci are important even though they could never fly. The point is that Leonardo had the idea that a heavier than air machine could fly at all, in principle.

The authors come out of the Alice Bailey/Agni Yoga (invented by Helena Roerich)/ latter day Findhorn sphere of intellectuality. That includes a huge over-estimation of the United Nations and its positive role in the world, which might have been justified in 1945 but scarcely so now! And the Roerichs were, to some extent, used by Bolshevist forces, notably Lunacharsky. That must make their pronouncements suspect, despite Nikolai Roerich's lovely paintings, which I have seen at his Museum in New York City (recommended).

I cannot agree with some of the conclusions reached, such as that the so-called "Ageless Wisdom" equates the Good with "the good of the greatest number"...From a Christian point of view (occult or exoteric), that must be seen as theological Error with a capital "E"! In fact, the fact that the wisdom is termed "Ageless" would seem to indicate a progress only in a circle, the Serpent swallowing its own tail (the symbol of the Theosophical Society) or Nietzsche's Ring of Eternal Recurrence. No.

The important positive point about this book is that it does show that purely spiritual effort can have actual effects in the physical world.

This is a very rich and learned reference work. I am widely read in the field of Eastern and Western spirituality and philosophy, yet this is one book that I learned much from. It stands head and shoulders above 95% of the other books of this genre, reflecting the authors' extensive knowledge. It includes some interesting insights into lesser-known belief systems. The books includes an excellent index and bibliography. The writing and layout is if the highest quality which makes this book very readable indeed. This is one book I will not be letting go of!

4.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Politics 21 Oct. 2010
By Nowhereman - Published on Amazon.com

This is a highly unusual look at world politics that is both quite down to earth and highly metaphysical at times. It looks at the political landscape from a point of view of personal responsibility and individual place in the "body politic" but also provides insight into each nation's "personality" and role in world politics. Its a fascinating, curious and sometimes macabre view into world politics.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book To Learn About YOUR Government 15 Feb. 2001

It's ridiculous to think that spirituality doesn't play some roll in the political arena. From the time of the founding fathers to modern day, spirituality has and does influence views and decisions within government decisions every day. This book is an excellent introduction with well researched information into how Spirituality has affected laws and policies, how you can participate to make change for the future, and gives wonderful insight into little known historical facts. A must read for every student of governement.

5.0 out of 5 stars A guide for the spiritual person wanting to help. 6 May 1999
By Rick Mathews - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Spiritual Politics is an excellent book for those that want to be connected to making a better world based on their own spiritual practices. The authors offer a vision of inter-connectedness between all religions and cultures and attempt to show that enligtened beings have, and are now, guiding human affairs. The book includes a listing of resources and offers advice about what you can do now.
