Warning! Despite the misleading information on the back of the box, they have taken the PAN & SCAN version on the movie and CROPPED OFF the top and bottom of the picture to produce a so-called 'widescreen image'. What results is probably about 35% of the original filmed image and it shows - the quality is dire and much of the action is lost outside the viewable area. Do yourself a favour and get the 4:3 video version instead.

Made early in Jackie Chan's career, this is Lo Wei's effort to cash in on Jackie's success as a 'comedy kung-fu fighter'. The comedy isn't as funny as it usually is with Jackie - it's mostly dodgey slapstick involving him stuffing animals down his trousers - but the fighting it brilliant and the end fight is a must-see. The story is that a book detailling an unbeatable style of fighting is stolen from a monastery (unfortunately whilst Jackie is supposed to be on guard duty). This leads to much intrigue and worry as the book teaching the only style able to defeat this unbeatable form went missing many years ago during some kind of disaster. However, Jackie finds this book and - thanks to the five ghosts that inhabit it - he masters the style. All I can say is, ignore the majority of the humour and don't let the weird makeup and *special* effects put you off. The fights are truely amazing!!

The age of this film definitely shows in the picture quality, but the story line is pretty good and quite funny throughout. Reminds me a little of crouching tiger hidden dragon. Theres plenty of action near the end - the beginning is more story than fighting. Its a great film overall though and the menu music is amazing

Spiritual Kung Fu is not quite what you might expect but still worth watching if youre a big chan fan.
Expect the usual comedy of early hong kong cinema.. the "ghosts" in the movie are basically short guys in wigs that other people cant see which jackie blackmails to teach him how to fight.. nothing "scarey".. just pure kids stuff.
Enjoyable for true fans but not recommended for newer fans expecting something good.
