The Spirit Box
The Paranormal Adventures of John Hazard Book I

When Walt Turner's mother died, he inherited her apartment and the antique shop below. After losing his job due to the treachery of a co-worker, The Spirit Box calls to him from the darkness of the shop with an offer of revenge.

Horror, suspense, and plenty of paranormal activity - this book is not for those looking for a light hearted book. All in the name of revenge, Walt turns into a killer, helping the Spirit Box collect spirits to become free. John Hazard is a local detective, investigating a double murder and the recent spate of missing persons. There are plenty of other characters, some only making an appearance for a few chapters, but all seem vitally important at the time to the storyline.

Well written, fast paced, plenty of twists and turns with a very unique and unusual plot, this book will keep the reader gripped and will appeal to all horror / thriller / paranormal fans.

I was given a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of those books that I nearly gave up on as it began so strangely but I'm so glad I did as in the end I sat up one night just to finish it. If you enjoy supernatural with a hefty chunk of weird thrown in this is the book for you. Do be warned though - some parts are shudder worthy!

the book has you waiting to see what will happen next, you have Walt that has found the BOX, the box it self, Detective John Hazard, a antique shop that was his mother's

some of the book is very funny. with Walt and a shopping trip that he does with a load of women in a shop, there is beer that is drunk a lot,

i finished this last night at 11-30 and i had just got to the scarier bit when i my hamster started to bang around in her cage and a police car went uo the road with it blue lights flashing,

the book also makes you wonder what if you could have anything in life it is best to pick that item wisely as you will find out with Walt when he picked things

The Spirit Box by JH Glaze

Before I start the umpteenth attempt of this review I feel I need to share something about how I go about reviewing books. I never read a blurb of a book I have to review; I never read other reviews about the book I am about to review. Why? Well because I don't want others impressions to influence my own. After I've written a review I will go and fetch the blurb from Goodreads or some such. I'll then read it and after I have posted the review will I go and read other reviews. That being said, I think it is a stupid method. I've never needed help more.

The Sprit Box is a vastly complicated book and as a reader you will soon find that your own life experience leads you to fill in the grey areas. This is the part that makes the book truly terrifying.

There are four main characters in this book. Walt, the owner of a box so ancient and evil it is indestructible. The second main character is detective John Hazard, a small town cop who has a John Wayne complex with Navy Seal training to boot. The Spirit Box, evil incarnate and lastly beer. Yes. I wrote beer, no need to dust off the reading glasses.

Remember I stated that a reader's own personal experience will guide and fill in the grey areas in this book. For me, the constant need of Walt to open a beer, have a beer, buy a few beers is as much a characters as is Walt himself. But more on the beer later, I know by now, you are thirsty!

This is in essence a story about need, greed, obsession and most of all perception. The last of which gets thrown out of the window with such a bang that it left me reeling three quarters through the book!

Walt is not a good guy but he is human. His need, his greed and obsessions are all very human in nature.

Walt Turner is a colorful character with some questions and hints of unexplained holes in the memory of his past. I loved how his modern hip dialogue contrasted with the more formal voice of the spirit in the box. It made for some very funny lines. I could feel Walt's hurt as he lead the life of a dweebish loser, friendless and lonely after his mother died. I became invested in him. Because of his isolation, his ready acceptance of the spirits demands that necessitated murder became believable. I was disapointed with what happened to him in the end, although the twist was super! I didn't see it coming. But I wanted more for my sad little bad guy. He just faded away without a whimper. It should have been more climatic and dramatic. Not the events sourounding the scene, they were very dramatic. It just needed some more of Walt's reaction to the unvieling of the spirit's secret. But all in all, the book was very well written with great pacing and a fast read. I suspect the other books by J H Glaze will be just as good, if not better. Just a tip to Mr. Glaze. Did you know is said that a writer should NEVER use more than 1 exclaimation point per book? Cheers.

Walt inherits his mother's apartment and antique shop below after his mother passes away. A co-worker deliberately betrays Walt's confidence causing him to lose his job.
The Spirit Box calls to him from the dark shadows of the shop below with a way to seek and get revenge against the co-worker.

WOW!, I actually won "THE SPIRIT BOX" !!! and finally had the chance to read it, to "Take a look inside the Box" Yeah

This is a short version of my original review that I had wrote, I tend to give to much so the other day I stepped away half way through typing it up to post and this is what I decide to post instead.

The Spirit Box is so full of suspense, mystery, twists, turns and is a down right spooky read!! The description of the Spirit Box (the actual) was so full of detail that it had me literally turning my head sideways and upwards as the details were being told. Then leaning away from the eyes, not wanting them to follow me!!

The box will promise you your dreams and or desires will be fulfilled, but only if you agree to do as the Spirit Box asks of you. Lured by the chance to have eternal life and ultimate power, Walt agrees to do just that!

All the characters are so believably spun around a spiraling fast paced, spooky and funny dialogue throughout the book. I found myself liking one, then further down not to sure. LOL... I just normally find myself enjoying, disliking and yes loving a character! Never have I ever flipped flopped back and forth, as I found myself doing as I read The Spirit Box. But that's a good thing right?... in this case yes it is, and it's further proof to me of the genius mind inside the head of JH Glaze.
