I love M/M reads and this story was just a fabulous as others I've read.
There's a whole bunch of amazingly loveable and interesting characters in this book! I felt each one of them connect in a way I hadn't expected at all. In fact when I read the synopsis for this novel I thought this seemed like a fun lighthearted read that would make me laugh and maybe make me swoon, yes I still did those things but I also felt each characters anguish and emotional turmoil that prompted me to want to wrap them in a huge hug - that aspect I hadn't expected to experience at all so it was a beautiful bonus.
Henry is a high flying musician with the world at his feet he loves life and has a flamboyant personality that portrays he's the happiest guy around yet looks can be deceiving. Henry also has issues and hates flying.
Evan is a laid back pilot that loves nothing more than being in the skies amongst the clouds.
Can two souls that seem to be complete opposites ever be made for each other?
This book makes you look at life and explains the feeling of falling in love in perfect way. Sometimes looking for Mr or Mrs Right isn't always the way you expect to find them. .......sometimes it's not the person it's the soul you find.
The only reasons that it loses a * is that there wasn't really enough angst in it, despite a brief break-up, and the price charged for such a short read.
The romance was well thought out and incredibly believable with many sweet moments within.
Would definitely recommend.
You'd think as a highly talented and successful singer/songwriter, he'd be prone to a drama queen episode or two… and you'd be exactly right!
Aly outdid herself when she dreamt him up, there is no part of his character that is wasted. Every nuance, aside and quip delivered hit home and you can’t help but find Henry anything but lovable.
The sentiment isn’t initially shared by Captain Evan Roth when he is hired to step in when Henry’s usual pilot falls ill, and what ensues is one of the funniest and sweetest scenes I’ve read in a while. So taken is Henry, he promptly decides Evan fits the bill as his next flight of fancy.
The levity of the story doesn't make it any less impactful, there are many layers to peel back with both Henry and Evan. Even bigger than any diva like command is Henry’s heart. He’s loyal to a fault and has immense love for those in his life, and when the last note is sung it’s more than he adoration of his fans he craves. Evan too has insecurities, he’s a steadfast character and Henry’s presence in his life forces him to deal with some unresolved issues.
The Spiral Down is by far my favourite read by Aly Martinez and I can’t rave enough about how fantastic a read it was. The epilogue was the perfect encore, but even so, you will not see me turning down an chance to revisit this couple again if the opportunity arises. *hint hint*
I was worried at first as I hadn't read the previous book but as it stated that this is a Standalone Novel I thought why not and I'm so glad I did, but I'll say I will most definitely be reading The Fall Up. As I stated this is a standalone and I didn't feel lost when characters from the first book are mentioned it only made me want to read it more. I believe this is the first M/M romance book Aly has written and she has done the genre justice.
I absolutely devoured this book from start to finish I couldn't put it down It was funny, emotional, genuine, sexy and everything I want in a read. I'm deeply in love with this book, Henry, Evan and their story.
Henry Alexander is an openly gay famous, talented musician with a particular taste in men (Straight men) this is to hide his true feelings of not thinking he is worthy of love due to his jaded past he also has an absolutely panic stricken fear of flying.
Evan Roth is a struggling pilot he hates labels to him its not the gender its the person. Evan was left devastated after a relationship with a man when he was younger broke his heart so choosing to stick with females was his way of dealing but that is until he meets Henry Alexander!!!
The Banter between these two was off the scale in fact with all the characters I loved the humour of Aly's writing.
"I thought there wasn't anything else in your magic bags,"
"There wasn't. I pay a little gay fairy to follow me around with condoms and lube. It's a perk of being rich."
I found myself highlighting so many parts of this book that made me smile, laugh and swoon to the both of these men.
In short this book is Superbly written,'The Spiral Down' will have you flying high with laughter and quickly falling in love with these men.
Aly Martinez you've gain another fan with me!!
watch out I stalk!!!
