This graphic novel catches spike's character just as if whedon was writing the script, when actually he had little input to say what he wanted to happen in the story.
If you want to find out what happened to Spike after the series finale then read this.
Recommended to fans of Angel and also i would say to read the first two volumes of Angel: after the Fall before reading this or at least the second volume titled First Night as that story proceeds the one in this book.

As a fan of the story arc of the Angel: After the Fall comics this one was a no brainer. Continuing on from the second volume of the books, this takes us through the story of Spike and Illyria from after the first night upto the events in the first volume of After the fall.

The story reads as a stand alone though does help to give understanding to the motivitations of Spike in the main arc where he understandable has a smaller role to play. The stories flow well together and let the character shine to his best.

Sadly, for me, the art let's this one down with it's inconsistency. Some of the art at the back shows what this could have been.

That all said this is definitely worth spending an enjoyable hour on.

Spike is in a different kind of L.A. after the events of season five...

SPIKE: AFTER THE FALL tells the story of what happened the the Bleach-Blonde Vampire between his premiere in HELL.A. in ANGEL: AFTER THE FALL - FIRST NIGHT and When Angel Catches up to him in issue 2 of the First AFTER THE FALL Arc.

And Brian Lynch has written a Really good comic - that see's Spike's emotional side (from his mixed feelings for Fred/Illyria to his reaction to a horrible fate for his most trusted human ally...) and sees him take center stage in this that he could never do in the Mainstream A:ATF comics...

I Say the above as in the "Making of..." Pages (Like it was a DVD... Great One Joss...) it is revealed that this was based on the idea of a budget indie film rather than big Blockbuster...

But they've got enough stuff in this to make the 1989 BATMAN look Tame (I Would say THE DARK KNIGHT (2008) but in Honour of Heath Leadger's Memory and brilliant acting in that role... i would say it could not beat that...) it's dark, gritty and full of great comedy - espicially Spike's monolouge in chapter one...

This is one story no fan who is Reading The ANGEL: AFTER THE FALL Comics, Should Miss.

Brian Lynch - I Salute You. write and ask joss to help get funding for this to be the SPIKE Movie - i can hear the title card "SPIKE! Coming AFTER THE FALL!!!" bit cheesy i know...

It is pretty well written and the story fits in well with the Angel series it spun out of, I do not eant to give anything away so my review will be light on plot details. The script is fine, Brian lynch has been doing Spike and Angel comics for a while.
Also Franco Urru has been illustrating both for some time as well. the problem is i find his art hard to like, despite the fact he is clearly a very good artist his pages look chotic and unappealling most of the time.

Fills in the gaps between Angel season 5 and Angel:after the Fall for some characters and especially for Spike.

Brian Lynch's characterisation of Spike is spot on and the art is really very good (LOVED the cover)! Quite some humour is in there and a couple of well created side characters. The plot is okay but not something really special, hence the loss of one star. Also, it is rather short for me but I won't kick another star off for that (though you have been warned).

A must read for any Spike fan and a good read for any Buffyverse comic fan.
