I'd first heard about this band in Terrorizer magazine late last year, and I followed further buzz circling them on both the net and via heavy metal press later on. I saw the video to Eight of Swords and, loving every last beat of it, started to to have high hopes for the upcoming album.
Boy was I not let down!
The whole album is a metal masterpiece, I am not sure which subgenre of metal it can be slotted into, nor do I particularly care, and I think a good term would be mixed-metal. So many different metal styles and influences, with vocalist Jill Janus having a vocal range to match them all, to accentuate them even!
The pitch and tone of the album varies throughout, meaning you're not just seemingly listening to the same song over and over again eleven times like it seems with so many new bands out these days.
Anyone and everyone who is into metal should check out this album, you may soon have a new personal favourite!

One of the best Heavy Metal albums you`ll find. Period.
Awesome vocals by Jill Janus. Catchy Heavy Metal tunes full of "hooks". Great and adequately a bit wicked lyrics. Gets better and better with multiple listenings.
Just buy this album -> you will most likely love it.

I really wanted to like...even love this c.d,but i found it massively disappointing! I love Metal, have done for a lot of years, and i like female fronted metal bands, most not all. But i found myself removing this c.d after about five tracks because it was just annoying me! The vocals and music don't gell, the tracks were pretty boring and her voice while okay did nothing for me. I know there is a bit of a buzz surrounding this lot but in my opinion it is unwarranted...if you like female fronted metal try Benedictum...especially the first two c.d's. Or...dare i say it try Noisy Toyz' new c.d,not as heavy, but i think far better! I'm sorry if this upsets any fans, but if it doesn't float yer boat...it sinks!
I'm giving it 3 stars because i think the musicians aren't bad,it might sound better with a male singer.

I prefer female fronted Metal and genres from Thrash to good old NWOBHM, if it really rocks then, who can want more.
Heard Eight of Sword on Totalrock radio and was hooked and thought if the album (the wait seeed like years!) was as good as that then the album will definitely be in my top 5!
It is good musically, but the vocals - Jill Janus...? Yes she has a very good range but she tries to hard to be a bit of everything. She goes from high pitched to a growl which is just weird. Another thing is that the music does not really go with the vocals or vice-versa. For this reason I give it a 4.
I have listened to the album countless times and it does not improve, it just becomes one of those albums that bounces about wanting attention until you put it on and all hat excietment dwindles and I feel that the impact of the album dwindles as it goes on. Saying all that Eight of Swords is true balls to the wall stuff and I would think has the potential to be a real live hit, but that is really the only track that really does it for me.
Don't be tricked in the Eight of Swords video and think that the album is like that all through, it's not. I like the album don't get me wrong as it is pretty meaty but... The video BTW gets you mkore interested in something other than the music and I would suggest that you listen to the track/album beforehand.
I hear that they will be playing Metalfest 2012(?), I wonder how they will get on!

Few people that have an interest in heavy metal music will be unaware of Huntress. They have recieved quite a lot of coverage in the metal magazines recently, particularly with regard to frontwoman Jill Janus. So I had great expecdtations for this CD, however I cannot say that I find it to be worth the hype.
This is not an appaling album, but I was stunned by the mediocrity after the pre release publicity.
A CD in the heavy/power metal vein, the lead guitar work is rather generic, the leads are uninteresting, and disappoint. The drummer is OK, but I can't comment on the bass playing, as the bass is submerged in the mix. There is little variety between tracks, and after a while the whole thing merges into one.
However the CD would still be listenable were it not for the lead vocals. Jill may well have a four octave vocal range, but it is still necessary to be able to sing appealingly. Her vocals come across as a combination of a second rate version of Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), a fourth rate of Kimberley Goss (Sinergy) and Ed the Laughing Hyena (The Lion King), and for me personally, make the CD unlistenable. After a maximum of five tracks, it is time to press 'eject' and reach for the paracetamol tablets.
I do like female vocalists in metal but suggest that if you want to hear a good one, try Sinergy or Crystal Viper. Particularly Sinergy.
I'm reluctant to put a relatively new band down, but I am extremely disappointed, and just cannot recommend this CD.
