I have had no trouble cleaning them. I wind the pop back to the starting position and bung them in the dishwasher and they're perfectly clean every time.
The only con is that younger ones will need help winding the pop up until they get the hang of it.
I received these from Amazon recently, rinsed them through and dried them - challenging but not major. However, after being used for frozen smoothies (always a pleasure), trying to get all the remnants of fruity yoghurt from within the mechanism is a nightmare. I tried a bottle brush, standard washing-up brush as well as the dishwasher, but found it was virtually impossible to remove all residues.
Maybe this is less of a big deal for others, but if not refilled immediately, the decaying yoghurt leaves a horrible smell and would, I feel, taint the plastic holder in a negative way. Also, from a hygiene point-of-view, this is less good.
I did manage to take a holder apart, but this is NOT easy at all and when I tried, using a (blunt) knife edge, I managed to scratch the plastic. Putting it back together was very difficult because although it sort of "snaps" back together, you've really got to force it.
Brilliant idea (as commented on by other reviewers) but extremely difficult to clean.
