This is a sturdy fork - but I think that "Neverbend" is a bit of a misleading comment. I tried to dig out a thick root with it and it did bend one of the tines, but I was pushing very hard and it was probably too much of a root for a fork to handle. However, as the bend was only slight, and ultimately it is a garden tool so doesn't need to stay in perfect condition for ever I decided to keep going with it rather than send it back, which has been a good decision because everything else it has managed without fault. The coating is very easy to clean off and even with the slight bend didn't break, so that protection is preserved.

In summary: Not invulnerable, but much stronger than a cheap fork. I should imagine it will be 10 years before I feel like replacing this.

UPDATE April 2015: The fork has met its end. Just some normal digging in the allotment resulted in the handle snapping clean in half. In total it lasted for about 2.5 years and was always stored in a dry shed. You can see the metal is in good condition! Time to find out how good the 10 year guarantee really is...

UPDATE July 2015: I can hardly believe it - the guarantee worked. Contacted Spear & Jackson, sent the photo of the broken fork and then one turned up at our house a week later.

As mentioned above I actually went through four forks before Mr Spear and Jackson arrived. I have been conducting major garden reorganisation requiring the uprooting of many scrubs and large bushes all the other forks broke or the tines bent so I am really pleased with this chap.

I bought this garden fork 3 months ago after thorough research, confidence in the brand and reputation of the company.
I was delighted to receive a well made and nicely finished garden fork.

After no more than 4 hours of normal / general use I was shocked and surprised that the fork shaft broke completely in two.

Amazon's response has been excellent - they have swiftly arranged a full refund.

Of course, I no longer have confidence in the product.
This seems like an inherent weakness, the broken wooden shaft appears very dry and brittle.

Used several times on quite heavy clay soil and still in one piece. Have broken several lower grade forks in my garden but this one survives. Great item

Product is OK if you just want to turn over soil but if you have an area with roots in dont bother! I bought this to clear a large area of spreading bamboo and had already gone through 3 old forks! One of the prongs bent all the way back the one time I found a tree root from a pre grubbed magnolia tree. After approx 2 hours of work this fork was out for the scrap man.

Very disappointed, this Neverbend fork bent within one hour of medium use in the garden just turning over an already dug bed!I do not recommend this item. Plus, it will cost me money to return it to Amazon as they only cover a percentage of the actual cost! Not what I've come to expect from Amazon.

Size is a tad small.. tynes are to thick and square.. its to heavy and most annoying are the way the studs and welds to shaft stick out and catch your hand... ... poor by S and J standards of old.. but then people seem to have lost touch in manufacturing things the proper way .. potato fork tynes should be flattish and honed to a type of point.. this is poor compared to ones I had 30 plus years ago......D T

Very good quality fork, would only consider Spear and Jackson neverbend range or Bulldog brands these days as everything else is cheap rubbish. Don't buy cheap tools, listen to one who knows......!
