This excellent, fun, stimulating resource for learning, for reinforcing, for brushing up on your Spanish, Usborne's Spanish for Beginners Pack comprises of:
"Sturdy pack with book, workbook, sticker dictionary, flashcards and CD with phrases spoken by native Spanish speakers
Internet links to useful, recommended websites
Book introduces vocabulary, everyday phrases and simple grammar
This comprehensive pack contains everything needed to start learning Spanish, including Spanish for Beginners - a lively and entertaining guide for complete beginners, an illustrated workbook with exercises, a pocket dictionary/wordbook with 120 stickers, and 50 illustrated flashcards to test vocabulary.

Having found the French version an excellent additional resource to language classes at the adult education college that I attend, where I am recapturing French learnt at school over forty years ago, I have bought this, and other Usborne language books, as fun reinforcers and as starters, for family members at school and at home (baby to adult), supplementing them with Collins Easy Learning language reference books, along with the also excellent McGraw-Hill Practice Makes Perfect series of exercise books (somewhat more serious - but I enjoy them too!)

So far within the family, by different members, Spanish, French, Irish, Italian, and Japanese (and a little bit of German!) are being learned, not forgetting the fun illustrated Usborne English language books that we have been using down the generations for about the last thirty years! Reading any language for pleasure is vital to reinforce your love and learning of, and your confidence with, that language, and Usborne help to make it a pleasure right from the start with their well thought out text and their colourful quirky images!

Enjoy your learning!

This book is great for starters or as refresher. I got it from the Library by mistake, but loved it so much I bought it and now my 9yr old cousin has it and she loves it. The layout and pictures make it easy for anyone to learn the basics in a matter of days! If you are looking for some holiday spanish or want a good book for young children, I would definately recommend this one!

The Spanish for Beginners Tape offers an excellent introduction to the Spanish language. The book contains many illustrations that are fun for both adults and children alike. The accompanying tape gives the listener exposure to correctly pronounced Spanish and follows the book well. As someone who has been struggling for the past year to get to grips with basic Spanish this set has been by far the most useful I have found. I would recommend the book and tape pack to anyone who wants to start learning Spanish, it is suitable for all ages (from about 6 upwards anyway) and really is fun to use. After finding this pack I have bought other products from the 'for Beginners' series and found them to be just as good.

This was an excellent training tool. My wife and I spent half an hour each evening first reviewing the previous day's lesson and then reading the new lesson followed by the audio lesson. I liked the structure of the learning and I liked the visuals as well as the audio. We were in Spain a couple of weeks ago and could communicate in Spanish at a basic level. We are now ready for the more advanced level.

A really comprehensive and thoughtful pack. Bought it for my daughter to supplement her school work - she has just finished Year 7 and is 12 in a couple of weeks - and it is great for that as it is fun, bright and colourful with lots of new vocabulary but is also good on the grammar front. The CD Rom is good too as that is how children are used to learning these days.Def full marks.

I bought this for my boyfriend before we went on holiday to a Spanish-speaking country, and we were both very disappointed with it. Firstly, the book and pack are an "all-in-one" design.... you can't take the book out of the cover that holds it together with the CD and all the various paraphernalia- making it impossible to carry just the book on bus or train to study, (and sometimes if you go to pick it up, the whole lot falls out onto the floor anyway.)

The explanations of grammar are too vague... for example, it doesn't explain the changes or relationships in pronouns and verb endings- and he was constantly having to ask me about sentence structure, (I had studied Spanish in school, and have a basic knowledge... but even so, I still found it confusing, and we were forced to look up a lot of things online.)

In the end we returned it. Learning a language by rote just isn't for us.

This is a lovely pack and well presented. However I bought the product to help me with holiday Spanish and as an adult this is not sufficient. The description says its "a brilliant introduction to Spanish for people of all ages" whilst I find that it is written with a younger readership in mind.

To begin with although there is an audio CD, the book itself has nothing on pronunciation which would be useful for the Spanish "ll".

The family section does not have mention of how to introduce your husband/wife, your daughter/son or your extended family outside of grand parents.

With regards to food it talks about what you like/ don't like. It does not cover items you might order on a menu, how to ask for a table, a high chair etc.

There is nothing about parts of the body and health, which would be very useful if going on holiday.

Having said that I can see a child finding the flash cards and sticker dictionary very engaging and I wish this sort of thing had been available when I was younger.

So, in summary, if you are buying this as an introduction to Spanish for a younger person then I think it is fit for purpose, with a bit of help necessary with pronunciation.
