The galactic war between Zertex and Symmorium continues, the team rescue the survivors of Commander Junta's warship but later they learn of a tragedy with the slaughter of thousands of Symmorium civilians at the hands of Loren's Zertex brother. He is now due to be executed for war crimes and the Space team are split over their course of action which ends up with most of them stranded on a world that demands full employment and well what are the Space team really equipped to do in the day to day job market, you may not be surprised.
There was a lot about this novel I liked, the ongoing humour always hit the mark but the overall narrative didn't quite grab me as much as the other novels but it's difficult not to enjoy the antics of Cal as he tries to put together a new space team and adjust to his new duties working for Nana Joan.
Ah Nana Joan, an interesting addition to the narrative and the expansion of this "world" with new characters and of course Kevin who is just pure comedic gold so lots to enjoy. The President continues to be a total megalomaniac and obsessed with Cal which could be his major weakness but if Space team can get their shizz together they may be able to stop a full scale galactic war.

If you've read the first 4 books and enjoyed them then this one is gratifyingly more of the same high quality humour plus spaceships. This book is great, the imagery it conjures up especially in the decrepit 'Down Here' (Space Detroit as Cal calls it) is rich and the story arc is suitably off the wall makes me a very happy Space Bunny. Arguably the best one so far. Roll on Book 6.

While that might be damning with faint praise the writing and characters have developed through the five books, the cliche count is dropping and the laughs are increasing.
This book had some stories lines that could have gone on for longer and others that were wrapped up a little too quickly but it was enjoyable, fun light reading.
I am looking forward to see how they develop going forward.

Who is Nana Joan? Does she really have guns? You'll have to read to find out.
Bad things happen, shizz gets blown up and it's fonking funny. Cal, Mech, Loren and Mizz are idiotic heroes, it never ceases to surprise me that they survive, yet they always pull it out of the bag. A space comedy that never fails to amuse.

This guy can tell a story! Space Team just gets better - and it started off pretty damn good in the first place. Hilarious, edge of the seat stuff, with the most amazing characters (yes, I'm talking about Splurt). Whatever you're doing stop it now (unless it's, like, really important. In which case do it later) and buy this series. I can almost guarantee - fonk it - I absolutely guarantee, you will love. Please Mr. Hutchison, don't ever stop writing about Cal and the team. Thank you.

As a 47 year old police officer still mourning the passing of Terry Pratchett I believe I finally found a worthy successor. Barry J stepped up to the plate and produced Cal Carved and the space team. Each book just got better and better with the team really becoming strong friends. Every time I read Nob Muntch I laughed out loud.
I can't wait for the next book.
