An entertaining fantasy about a bunch of bright but eccentric kids who attend NASA's Space Camp and end up being sent into space on an emergency launch of the space shuttle Atlantis, all because a cute little robot named JINX wants to make a friend happy. The young cast is certainly talented, with Lea Thompson (Kathryn) before "Carolyn in the City," Kelly Preston (Tish) before "The Love of the Game," and Joaquin Phoneix (Max) light years before "Gladiator." Kate Capshaw (Andie) and Tom Skerrit (Zack) give the film appropriate weight as the married astronauts who serve as the father figures. The backstory is that Andie has never made it into space and sees Kathryn as a younger model of herself, giving her an excuse to really push the girl. Tate Donovan (Kevin) is the rebellious stud who wants to know Kathryn better and does not take Space Camp all that seriously. Of course there is a lesson to be learned here about teamwork, especially once the kids are up in space with their lives at risk, but the fun for kids is imagining they too could accidentally be sent into space. "Space Camp" takes itself much more seriously than most fantasies, especially in terms of the details regarding a shuttle that is not really ready for launch, which makes it easier to just sit back and go along for the ride. Of course NASA would not allow kids to sit on the shuttle for a live engine test and certainly they would not have picked this group of misfits to receive the honor. But if that is what you what to focus on when watching this movie then you just do not understand thermal curtain failure or remember what it was like to be a kid and do what grown ups do. The movie also features an excellent musical score by John Williams.

The actors are all grown up, some gone, others will be with us hopefully for a long time yet. As you may have guessed I liked this film. It teased with the thought that this could have happened. The whole bit was possible, not probable I'll concede, but every space struck youngster must have laid in bed and dreamed of this happening to him or her.The stars were healthy looking, pretty outgoing teenagers, not I'm happy to say, the overstuffed Barbie's of so many movies. They got across the acting bit in a natural way which struck true. That alone was remarkable. The grown up's had the easy natural feel about them that good character actors always seem to have. They become the character they play. I have seen the movie several times when I am relaxing, when children and grandchildren visit. I still watch with a smile on my face.

A classic sci-fi film in which a group of teenagers from the Space Camp in Huntsville Alabama, get accidently launched into orbit on board the Space Shuttle. The film shows how this group of teenagers who don't get along, have to pull together in order to give themselves a chance of surviving re-entry. A mixture of humour, action and adventure make this a must see film for the whole family.

Just a fun, fantasy film. I LOVED this film when I was growing up. I'm in my early thirties now but, if I am sick or had a bad day at work (now space related work!) I stick this film on and loose myself in it. In fact, my best friend bought it for me for my 30th because we grew up quoting from it!

The musical score is fantastic.

Lots of fun and a great movie for a Sunday afternoon.

I did watch this film a long time ago, but this time, I fell it was really boring.
The boy who came to the camp and cheated getting into the group, I did not like.
He was spoilt and greedy and rich. The 2 irks and the lady were nice. The smaller boy Max was nice. The other boy was a bit of a snob. He thought he knew things, but he did not.
Just another stupid American film with rather a lot of idiots.
I would not waste my time watching it any more.
There are a lot of stupid american films.
