Product Description

The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion: The Black Crowes’ sophomore album, which went to #1 on the Billboard 200 upon its release in May, 1992, eventually going double-platinum, will be released for the first time as a two-disc 180 gram vinyl set. It was previously released as a single LP in 2004 only in certain countries and only appeared in the U.S. in 2009 by way of an inferior quality third-party pressing. Now remastered for vinyl, the album was the first to feature Marc Ford on lead guitar, replacing Jeff Cease. The title comes from the full name of an influential hymnal compiled by William Walker in 1835. The disc includes the band’s cover of Bob Marley’s “Time Will Tell.” Guitar World included it in the magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitar albums of all time.

The best album by this group. Great for listening to at home or for driving, it showcases the great voice of Chris Robinson and this really cool band. This is one of the few modern great rock n roll albums.

Really excellent album, took a few listens but once there it's a corker. For a "difficult 2nd album" it's a bit of a masterpiece. If you like your Rolling Stones circa 69 - 75 then get this CD into your collection!

This is my favourite album of all time and has been from the first listen to the thousandth. It coincided with me getting into live music so my taste is coloured by the fact that they are a great live band too. I got to see them many times as a youngster winning me over with the passion and intensity of their playing. This album was recorded in only a few weeks and captures their essence perfectly, even more than the more recent stuff which was recorded live. The entire album is great from start to finish, but the trio of songs on side 2 beginning with Black Moon Creeping, moving through no speak.. and ending in My Morning Song are the finest 15 minutes of music that have been committed to record.

Given how bad the previous re-issue of this Vinyl was, I was hesitant to purchase this without a listen.
Thankfully they have scrapped the unbalanced mixing and haphazard levels of the last pressing and (it seems) gone back to the masters to cut this version.
This is the a brilliant album with the laid back, smoky bourbon laced blues that defined the brothers Robinson.
A true classic and modern post classic Stones era.

Very, very, very Happy!

One of my favourite albums, and certainly one of the best albums of the nineties.

Having almost destroyed my original CD through repeated play, this way one I always wanted on vinyl... and it doesn't disappoint.

I've got a couple of the new 180 gram vinyl presses of albums now, and I have to say I'm getting in to them a bit more... but this sounds astonishing!

The first thing to say, is that it's a Back-to-black edition (not sure if that's clear in the Amazon listing), and that the album has been split into two 180 gram discs, with record one having two tracks a side, and record two having three per side. The vinyl is brilliant quality, they come in two poly-lined inners (Got that bit right at last Back to Black!) and the labels are great (although not original design replicas). The curious thing though is that the sleeve is a single album sleeve of about double-wide thickness, that accommodates both discs, and the glossy lyric insert (as well as the Back To Black download voucher).... Not sure how I felt about that initially, as I think if you're going to replicate the original, then stick it all on one disc, or if you do make a double disc edition, then why not give it a gatefold sleeve, so each disc can be housed separately?

...But I'm sure I'll get used to it.

It does make for quite satisfyingly heavy package, of superb vinyl, and ultimately, this sounds better than the CD.... it's incredible... spot on.

I was a little nervous that they'd re-master it and wash it all out, or change the spacing so it doesn't sound like it oughtta, but they've kept the sound design as it is... you can just hear more of it, each instrument in greater detail, and with perfect clarity.
