5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent purchase for the money. 6 May 2015

Bought this for my son to get rid of the old crappy bed he had, it looks great, seems very sturdy, and took about 3 hours to assemble but probably could have done it in less time if I hadn't been watching TV at the same time. It assembles easily with a hammer and screwdriver, except the drawers, honestly half the time I spent putting this together was just the drawers alone, but when it was all said and done the end result was well worth the price. My only concern going forward is if it has to me moved, it could be troublesome getting it in and out of the room and I question it's reliability if standing up or on it's side in a moving truck but I could be wrong... It is rock solid in the position it is supposed to be and supports a 12" memory foam mattress and a 200 pound young man with no difficulty. For the money I don't think you could go wrong this this purchase.

It arrives in two separate boxes, about 75-80 pounds each... parts are in both boxes in no order, you will need to unbox both to start the assembly.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great bed! 20 Jun. 2016

I purchased this when I moved into my new place. It arrived on time in two boxes. Both boxes were packed well and all of the pieces arrived intact and were labeled to correspond with the instructions.

The instructions were mostly pictures with little to no text. But the pictures were pretty simple to figure out, and as a visual learner I figured it out pretty quickly.

I installed this bed myself and I think it took me about 3-5 hours (Sorry for the wide range, but I didn't time how long I was actually working, just noted what time I started and what time I finished - and I know I took a few breaks in between).

I actually made a mistake towards the end of the process (I kept forgetting to lock the cam screws in place and at one point I installed the side upside down). Thankfully it was not hard to fix my mistake. Cumbersome and frustrating, yes. Difficult, no.

If you work carefully and sort your materials beforehand, assembling the bed won't be a major undertaking.

I've been sleeping on it for about two months now and I haven't had any problems. The bed itself is sturdy (note: I'm 5'11 and curvy) and the drawers hold a good amount of weight. I'm using one of the drawers to hold about 4 old chunky textbooks and have no issues with opening and closing the drawer.

Excellent bed. Excellent price. Would buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous beds 15 Dec. 2013

Very heavy in the box. Bought 3 of these, 1 for each daughter. Made each 1 help assemble, which gave them a sense of pride and accomplishment. Took about 2.5 hours to complete. No mattresses included, fyi.

*UPDATE 03/18/16*
These are low to the ground, but you cannot add a box spring if you weigh more than 150lbs(75kg). The wood is particle board and crumbles easier than you would think given the weight of the package. I bought three of these for my three daughters. We have two left. They are hard to move whether it is to a different room, or a new house. It is definitely a two person ordeal at minimum, otherwise you must take them apart to avoid over-extending and breaking at the joints. They are aesthetically pleasing once set up. Also, keep track of the tracking number and progress. You need to help the UPS person. They are too heavy for one person. Heck! They are too heavy for two people unless you are a medic or fire fighter, or construction worker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, Good Price, drawers glide well. 29 Dec. 2015

I was concerned about the negative reviews, but it was exactly what we wanted. We've had it for 3 months. It's sturdy, looks really nice, and the drawers glide well. I sleep in it with my daughter when she is feeling scared. It's supportive and works well with the mattress we bought on here (see other review). We like it and will probably have it for years to come. It was a little difficult to put together but that is the case with all compressed wood. Be gently with the screws as you don't want to crack it. Make sure you put it together where it will be placed, you won't want to lift it. It's heavy.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay, but would not purchase again 26 Mar. 2012

We needed a full-size bed platform, and didn't want to schlep to the big, blue Swedish flat-pack store, which is a couple hours drive each way for us. The good news is that this South Shore bed was available via Amazon Prime, at a not-unreasonable price.

However, it is very cheap goods. It's made from laminated particle board, which I knew going in, but it's cheap, crumbly particle board. The drawer slides are plastic. The actual flat platform that the mattress rests on is thin ply-board, and putting concentrated weight on one specific area of the mattress (like sitting up, or a toddler jumping up and down) flexes the boards quite a bit.

The drawers are also pretty small, given the size that they could be. Also, the top edges of the bed frame are square (not rounded), meaning that when you swing your legs off the bed and your thighs hit the edge of the bed, it is uncomfortable because a relatively sharp edge is pressing into you.

Assembly was a bit of a chore, but not any more so than any other assemble-it-yourself furniture. It took about 3 hours from start to finish, working at a leisurely pace.

Overall, I do not recommend this bed, and would not buy it again. Instead, I would endure the long drive to the big, blue box store and get something a few notches higher in quality.
