What does strength sound like? This is the sound of an athlete. This is the body singing. The body is the ultimate instrument - Laura is the face of the strong, inspirational women, combining music and sport to striking effect.

Recently so many classical crossover singers have been producing the same kinds of albums full of covers with unimaginative arrangements of the same songs and I have been wanting something different for a while now (there are only so many versions of Ave Maria and Danny Boy that I can listen to). While I liked Laura's first two albums they were nothing that had not already been done before by so many others, this album is very different. I know that it is not completely original to add drums to classical tracks and Laura is not the first to do this, but there are no others in the industry at the moment who are releasing classical music like this. I think it is great that Laura (and Decca) want to try something different.

This CD has great original arrangements and while drums have been added I do not think this takes anything away from the originals as there are still strings and elements of the classical music, it only adds an extra element which makes the music very exciting to listen to and also great for running and exercising which is what I use this music for.

The best tracks on this album for me are: Beethoven Allegretto, Beethoven Moonlight Sonata (this one is not like any arrangement I have heard and the lyrics are great too), Agnus Dei (this has lines from Kipling's IF which is really inspirational when running), With You, O Euchari, Dido's Lament, Pachabel's Canon.

O Euchari and Dido's Lament are sung straight (there are no drums on these) and this shows Laura's beautiful voice and Dido's Lament has a backing of voices like choral music which really suits Laura. Many of the tracks on this album have a choral quality with layered vocals and this creates an interesting effect.

This is Laura Wright's third full length album since she left super classical group All Angels four years ago and she has struggled to make her mark in the overcrowded soprano market. Her two previous albums were not anything remarkable - she sweetly sang some folk and pop songs doing nothing to separate herself from the crowd. I was a huge fan of Wright when she was in All Angels and though her first two albums were put straight back on my CD rack to collect dust, I still followed her career with interest.

I'm glad I did. It's taken four years, but Wright has found her niche. No longer just another soprano in a pretty dress, she has adopted an image and concept that has the potential to see her get mainstream attention for the first time (although she won't - Decca do not have the clout or resources). Wright has a pure voice, imbued with real beauty which lends itself superbly to choral and Baroque material but not so much to pop and folk as she has been doing previously. 'Sound Of Strength' celebrates her choral roots which in itself makes it her best album to date but she has far surpassed my expectations as she goes a step even further.

Laura Wright the person is an enthusiastic fitness fanatic. She has made many appearances singing at sporting events (especially Rugby, which she plays herself) and her Twitter feed is often full of snaps from marathons and the like. She has a dedicated fitness blog which is separate from her main website. At some point, someone clever, maybe Laura herself - I don't know - decided to combine her two passions: fitness and music. It works so, so well. Her leading single for this album is an updated rendition of Barber's Adagio of Strings (Agnus Dei), arranged and produced with joggers and runners in mind.

By M. Dowden HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 11 May 2015
Format: Audio CD
Laura Wright, as well as being drop dead gorgeous also has the voice of an angel, just listen to her lovely mezzo soprano. I think that the fact that as well as being a singer Laura is quite the athlete has led to the title of this album which is actually a nice title, and a well known sports psychologist was used to help bring a fusion of the music here to how people feel, and how you can harness this for exercise, sporting events, etc. I will admit that anything this young lady sings blows me away and thus I always love listening to her.

Ms Wright definitely pushes the boat out here even singing Nessun Dorma, a piece written for tenors. Her willingness to try new things and to use her passion for music as well as sport to create an album such as this shows that she is most certainly bold and willing to take risks. In all though she has managed to pull this whole album off with quite some aplomb and has created something that is most certainly well worth listening to.

A real change from Laura's previous two solo albums (The Last Rose & Glorious). Superb vocals with really upbeat and dramatic music behind her.

Laura sounds like a band all on her own and the magic of modern music making has some brilliant harmonies coming through.

An interesting and clever direction to take with really unique versions of these songs - and at this price you can't make a mistake!

Great new EP from a personal favourite. Agree with other reviews interesting new direction and most if not all are great running tracks. But even if you don't want running music you should definitely buy this for the sheer beauty and strength of Laura's voice as well as hearing new takes on classical pieces.

Only critique it is tantalisingly short. Looking forward to her whole album.
