Having studied at the university one of the authors works at (Salford, Manchester), I was recommended to pick up this book. It is brilliant, a good and simple guide to sound recording and the theory behind it. Very useful as I was studying. It also delves into more advanced topics such as Ambisonics and spatial awareness.
The only downside is that you will have to get the latest edition to keep up to date on latest theories and discoveries.

Bought this as further reading for my BSc Music Technology degree, it has been a huge help, it's packed with everything you could possibly need to know to do with sound, this book is more up to date however and so a lot of it is based on digital music, but i can't see any problem with going back through the editions to pick out information related to analogue recording etc. Great buy.
