Great cd, well worth the money - a slice of the finest label - strongly recommended Rhythm and Blues at it's finest!

Formed in 1957 the Sue label clocked up a few hits up to 1966 by which time the name had been assumed by a U K collectors' label.By that time it had become Symbol and Eastern and charted with Tina Britt's The real thing.
The label was licensed in the U K to Decca up to 1962 after which product was issued by its U K namesake.
Sue was the first label to issue an Ike & Tina Turner record and among the obscure names was one Ocie Smith who would make the top 5 in 1968 with the country song Son of Hickory Holler's Tramp

I have recently gone a bundle on Motown and Northern soul and so decided to give this a spin. Sorry to say to me it is a little bit too rough and unpolished. It is a definate step down from the other labels output and is a bit too basic to grab me. I think I prefer the Dave Grodin stuff or the Cellar full of Motown cds

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Solid & Fun R&B From the Vaults 19 Sept. 2006
By KC - Published on Amazon.com
A nice roundup of solid, professional and mostly fun R&B tracks from Sue Records back in the day when there were still regional labels. No drop dead forgotten tracks but all heartfelt & solid performances.
4.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent Seven on Track 25 5 July 2014
By Tony Stallard - Published on Amazon.com
Soul Of Sue Records: New York City album for sale So nice to be included in such a stellar collection of early R&B tunes. Soul Of Sue Records: New York City CD music Much of this material was popular before Stax, Motown, and Muscle Shoals. Sue Records and 'Juggs' Murray mirror a diversity of the artists, and material they were best known for. -Tony Stallard. Magnificent Seven (Hammond organ 1959-1966).
