Review

I have nothing but respect for this man of peace and integrity (Sir Cliff Richard)

Legend William Roache ... lifts the lid on his incredible life and soapland career in a fascinating new autobiography. (Inside Soap Magazine)

About the Author

William Roache has been an actor on Britain's best-loved soap opera Coronation Street, for over 47 years - making him the world's longest-serving soap star.

As a young actor William auditioned for a TV drama that was likely to be running for only a few weeks. Now, 47 years later, he is the only original cast member and Coronation Street's success has established him as a household name.

I first heard about this book when I saw Mr Roache on TV talking about his new book, and with me not really being a fan of his what made me sit up and listen was watching him talk about some of his spiritual beliefs. From that moment on I was interested and wanted his book. I looked at reviews online which praised it, and so when my sis asked what I wanted for xmas, I asked her for the book. I am so pleased I did.

Being a biography, this book starts off with William telling you about his childhood, his schooling etc and his life into adulthood and how he came to be an actor in Coronation Street. He talks about some of the people he has worked with in the show. There are some personal things he brings up in his life which I found quite sad, like the loss of his daughter Edwina. But as the book goes along, most of all I found it to be a book of a good heap of spiritual medicine. As William talks about his beliefs and the huge impact his beliefs have had on his life, I found myself being drawn in and I found it hard to put the book down. I just wanted to read more and more. It's such a positive read. I also enjoyed the many photo's in the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in William Roache as an actor to get a better sense of who he is and how he became famous. I would also recommend this book to anyone who is interested in spirituality. It was an inspirational read for me, and certainly something I needed to read right now.

I have just read this whilst at a Health Farm and it really took me on an amazing spirtual journey which answers questions for me that I have not been able to get elsewhere - it all suddenly makes sense. LIke anyone who is travelling or in a public place, there may be a slight ego thing about what you are reading; the first day or two I was hiding the cover by half way through the book I realised what I was doing. It may look like I was reading about a Coronation Street Actor but as Mr Roache so eloquently explains, it is because of being Ken Barlow that he has had the opportunity to share his immense wisdom and gifts but this book will really appeal to anyone, Corry fan, or not. I am going to be taking lots of little anecdotes out to share with people, who might be put off by the Soup Star identity but this could change their life and the way they think about their death too !! Too big a subject to be missed!!!

I brought the book because I was interested to find out about William's thoughts about life and death and spirituality.
After reading this book it has made me take stock of my life and start looking at life in a very different way than I have done so far.
A lot of what William says made sense to me and that's properly because I do believe their is life after death so I was wasn't as surprised as say someone who reads this but believes their is nothing after we die.
This book I think will help the reader understand spirituality if they really want to look at life in that way which I do.
A very enjoyable and heart warming book worth adding to anyones book shelf.

I was never really a William Roache fan. However I was given this book as a Christmas present and I read it in just a few days. I really could not put it down and it changed my opinions of Mr Roache entirely. I would never have thought he was such a spiritual man. It really is a book you must read to believe.

I was never religious but a few years ago I came across the work of Robert Schwartz which resonated with me (both of his books are on Amazon).
I saw Bill Roache on an Irish tv show last winter and was surprised and happy to hear is spiritual views which the media describe as 'bonkers', 'crazy' and 'eccentric'. How sad and brainwashed journalists are. They are afraid of his truths.
This is a good, interesting book with enough to keep the Corrie fan happy or those on a spiritual journey.
Worth rereading is A Gift Of Understanding on page 271 - a nice summation of his beliefs.
The writing style is average but its a good buy at a penny.
Good luck to you Bill!!

I am a spiritulist and so much of this book made sense to me, however this book is great for those that actually are not interested in spiritualism also as Mr Roache has a way of expression that really does make you think, I could not put this book down. I loved it

The "Soul in the Street" is one of the best books I have ever read. Every page kept me wanting to read more. I did not specifically buy this book because it was autobiography about William Roache. I bought the book because I listened to a radio interview with William Roache talking about the story he told in his autobiography. It is a great book for anyone interested in personal development and Spirituality. Also for a individual who is going through a bad time or has lost someone close to them, this a heart warming book. William Roache is much more than a famous character on Coronation Street. William tells the story of his early life and spiritual influences that have inspired him to seek a deeper understanding of life. It is a very empowering book and will undoubtedly appeal to most fans of Coronation Street. 10/10
