Product description

Review

Normally I read books at a slow pace but this flowed so well, I tore through it. It has a great storyline. I adored the descriptions of Italy, they were so vivid I felt as if I was actually there, basking in the heat. The characters are also well fleshed out and the mystery will keep you guessing right until the end. It is by turns exciting, poignant and fascinating - the 'soul room' scenes particularly moving. (Amazon reviewer)

The descriptions were really evocative. And I enjoyed the characters' depth and missed them when I put the book down, which wasn't for long because I wanted to find out what happened. The author created true voices (some of which I identified with, and others I enjoyed 'meeting') and this is the feeling I'll take away with me. I thoroughly recommend the book as an articulate, pacy, intelligent page turner. (Amazon reviewer)

This novel has heart. It is a mixture of past, present and future brought together with a knowing eye. Within that there is also suspense and a haunting magic. A really engaging read. (Amazon reviewer)

I loved this tale. A heady mixture of love, loss, intrigue, mysticism and danger, set in Italy and Brighton, (Amazon reviewer)

really enjoyed this story and liked the way the story shifted in time and moved between Brighton and Italy, two places I know and love. (Amazon reviewer)

This is a beautifully written book that takes you from sun drenched scenes in Italy to a blustery Brighton as Maddy desperately searches for her missing brother. The story also dips into an imaginary relationship between Maddy and her baby growing inside her! The story unfolds through Maddy's eyes both as an adult and from her childhood experience that gradually gets revealed as traumatic and painful. Its a cleverly constructed mystery that is both believable and engaging. Her life is is full of modern day challenges and struggles, despite her vulnerability, to find her brother leading to a thrilling ending. I immediately found myself taken in to the story read it in just a few sittings! (Goodreads Reviewer)

I loved the way this story weaved fluidly in and out of each section from past to present. It is beautifully written by expertly managing to keep it's fast pace, whilst drawing you into a vast landscape of sublime detail. It has a vibrant, natural simplicity yet somehow deeply engraved undertones that draw you in and won't let go. (Goodreads Reviewer)

Loved the settings of Brighton and Italy - made me want to hop on a plane! I felt that I connected with Maddie and all her challenges, she's a strong character but with a vulnerability which makes for a really engaging female lead.. Some of the language is super smart and I enjoyed 're-reading many of the phrases as the writer has a fresh and unique style with a light touch of humour. (Goodreads Reviewer)

Such a beautiful and descriptive read. I really felt I was there in some of the scenes alongside the main character. I could almost feel the strong pull of the Italian garden and the spiritual connection to not only the land but also to the main character's emotional dilemmas. There is mystery, intrigue, heartbreak and renewed hope - all the necessary ingredients for a brilliant read. I loved it. (Goodreads Reviewer)

About the Author

Corinna Edwards-Colledge was born in Chorlton-cum-Hardy in Manchester, and spent much of her childhood reading fantasy books and exploring the local countryside fueled by Kendal Mint Cake. Unsurprisingly a love of the natural world and a hint of mystery is something that often appears in her novels. Her passion for writing started when she won a poetry competition at the tender age of seven. Since then she has worked as a journalist, written an anthology of poetry, a screenplay and three novels (The Soul Room, Return of the Morrigan and The Call). She studied English and Media at the University of Sussex and has worked in kids playschemes, run volunteering organisations, managed the newsroom for a local TV news programme, and trodden the boards, in a play written by and starring the late Brian Behan. For the last thirteen years she has worked in local government, delivering schemes that encourage people to live more active lives. She lives in Brighton in a loving if sometimes hectic menagerie including her husband, kids, step-kids and pets. As well as writing, she loves cooking very hot curries, going on long walks and sitting in cosy pubs, though not necessarily all in one day!
