About the Author

As a teenager Kelly devoured books by Stephen King and James Herbert (The Rats series was her all time favourite) and managed to scare herself silly most nights when she stayed up late reading one of their books. She also loved to watch scary movies like American Werewolf in London, the Exorcist and The Lost Boys, to name but a few. I guess her penchant for all things paranormal and dark started back then. She always had a vivid imagination (unsurprisingly) and would dream most nights about some creature or other. Some of those creatures appear in her books now. Kelly has lived in London all her life, and grew up in the 80's and 90's. She had many holidays to Cornwall as a kid, and both areas feature heavily in her book The Soul Guide. She's now a mum of two and a wife to one (otherwise she'd be a bigamist) and she found that her love for horror diminished when she had children. Now she prefers to read fantasy and paranormal books, although every now and then she pulls out her copy of The Rats and allows her inner teenager to enjoy the scare it still elicits.

This novel instantly drew me in with it's beautifully drawn characters and compelling storyline. It's told in the third person and focuses on three main characters thrown in to a high octane situation where the future of the human race quite literally depends on their actions. Bertram the gruff but kind hearted Caretaker, Alec the dark and brooding Guardian and the Soul Guide herself, Sybil, who at first seems fragile and vulnerable but finds inner reserves of strength she didn't know she had. Stock's fantasy world is utterly convincing and we slowly begin to discover how it works and just what is as stake as the book progresses. A really good read and Stock has laid the ground work for a convincing trilogy. I can't wait for the next instalment!

A page turner of a story. This is not a cosy fantasy, but a slightly scary one. After a terrifying car accident leaves her mother dead, her face scarred and her father distant, Sybil finds she has to run from the darkest of shadows that hunt her. She is to be the next Soul Guide, but the Master of the darkness will do anything to stop that happening.

This book was not my usual read, it took me a few chapters to get into it but once it got hold I couldn't put it down. The epilogue had me gasping and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
The descriptive writing is brilliant, I could see and feel everything......I loved it.

Bought this book as heard it was good (haven’t got a kindle) and WOW, so cleverly written! Liked the way she describes the secret doors, so much detail in it and through the whole book. Fell in love with the relationship between Sybil, Alec and also Bertram. So beautifully written and loved the surprising ending. Thought the book was very emotional .. Well worth the read.

This is a book of mystery, tension and fantasy. I am both confused and intreagued at the same time; my mind is whirling with all the possibilities book 2 could hold. A fantastic read for all who enjoy a fantasy thriller!

Wow! I could not put this book down. The way Kelly writes encaptures you and takes you to another place. Her vivid imagination and they way she describes every detail enables you to picture in your mind being there with Sybil on this spiritual journey. It only took me two days to read and I can't wait for the next instalment to see what happens next.

I am not a good writer and leave book reviews to those that can but after just finishing this book from new author Kelly Stock thought i had to say how good it was. This well written dark mystery that kept me hooked from the first chapter, great work Kelly and I look forward to the next installment.

Although this book is not of the type I usually read, I found it beautifully written and can't wait to read the next in the series. All the characters were believable and left me wanting to quickly find out what happened next. I look forward to reading about Sybil, Alec and the caretaker and their next fight against the darkness.
