Product Description

Product Description

The complete first series of the popular sitcom. Episodes include ‘For Love Or Mummy’, ‘Buttons’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Bachelor Seeks Anywhere’, ‘Does Your Mother Know you’re Out’, and ‘Curse Of The Mummy’.

Featuring commentary by Ronnie Corbett on 'For Love or Mummy', 'Buttons' and 'Bachelor Seeks Anywhere '

Meet Timothy Lumsden, a 41-year-old librarian, diminutive in stature, with a keen interest in amateur dramatics. A smart enough chap, witty and bright; but women do often cause him to blush. This, however, is never an obstacle to his romantic intentions. What always is the obstacle is his mother - domineering, overbearing and omnipresent. Timothy still lives at home with his parents and it's his smothering, bossy mother who insists on treating him as if he were still a little boy.

His father often joins Timothy in silent defiance of this Gestapo officer in a dress, and his sister Muriel--who left the nest, like a Colditz escape party, many moons ago--is often there to lend an ear and offer advice. Timothy would love to fly away, but the apron strings seem to be made of reinforced steel. Will he ever cut them? Will his romantic dreams ever come true? Or will his mother always sabotage his relationships, and he remain forever sorry?

I enjoyed series 1&2 when this was originally first released on DVD. This ia a gentle comedy and is seriously underated. It holds a particular charm for any adult who has had to live at home with their parents, like myself.
Please, please release series 3-7 whoever is listening out there.
The theme tune and credits alone are enough to get nostalgic about.

I remember this series from my childhood back in the 80s and recalled vary little about it other than it was the story of a 40-something-year-old man who still lives at home with his mother and father. I love the 70s/80s sitcoms and so when I saw this DVD on sale from Amazon Uk for less than £4 I thought I would buy it and reminisce.

It was as I remembered it, though I didn't fully appreciate it as a kid back then, but I loved it this time round. I love looking at the fashions, houses, decor, fashions, vehicles and streets of this era and these sort of programmes provide me with that material, with some good, clean, classic comedy thrown in for good measure.

The picture quality is good and I was able to watch and listen with no proplems whatsoever.

Recommended if, like me, you love programmes from this era.

I recently watched Series 1 of Sorry! which I enjoyed greatly and followed up with Series 2 which I've just finished and equally enjoyed. I vaguely remember the series from the 80's but it largely passed me by when originally shown for some reason. Sorry! is very dated in a number of ways but I would argue has aged very well nonetheless. There is a gentle, bitter-sweet and often slightly melancholy strain to this humour which is sometimes laugh-out-loud funny but much more often subtle and even moving in nature. I agree wholeheartedly with previous reviewers who have said that for almost anyone who, although into adulthood, has found themselves still living with their parents (I would imagine an ever increasing number of people with today's astronomical property prices), there is a real ring of truth about Timonthy Lumsden's experiences. All three leading cast members, Ronnie Corbett, Barbera Lott and William Moore are excellent but I was particularly reminded of how good Corbett's comic timing is (surely one of the best in the business). Timonthy Lumsden is such a shy, bumbling, ironic and likeable character that you cannot help but feel for him and empathise. The humour and situations are of their time but are also in a sense timeless and I think the reason for this lies in the portrayal of Lumsden's complex relationship with his parents. I'm really looking forward to watching the remaining series of Sorry! which I think will prove one of the gems of British comedy. Well done the Beeb for this release!

Ronnie Corbet is excellent in this being totally dominated by his mother. A special mention to his father in this who plays the long suffering husband very well. Suprisingly Timothy has a lot of great one-liners back to his mothers smart comments on life. Please bring out the rest, its very witty

I'll start by saying that I am a true, dyed in the wool fan of British comedy, but this 1980s show was such a disappointment, now as it was then (my parents weren't huge fans at the time it was broadcast, so I didn't really watch it, but I managed to catch some random episodes.) Ronnie Corbett is a great comedy performer, but unfortunately the spiteful and willful nature of his overbearing Mother's nature was far too much to bear and I returned the disc to LOVEFiLM after watching one-and-a-half episodes. I wrote about my experience on one of the the UK's best-loved comedy websites and some people agreed with me.

That said, the theme tune is flipping excellent.

This beats anything from the good ol' USA. Corbet and the rest of the cast are superb. Nice sharp witty comedy from a time when we knew how to make sitcoms and had the talent to get the best from the scripts. Comes highly recommended.

I have a big soft spot for this show. Timothys witty asides against his domineering mother are a particular delight. These two characters are the axis of the show, but lets not forget Timothys excellent bumbling father, and his more strong-willed sister (i still fancy her!) Also his best friend Frank, who is frequently exasperated by Timothys ridiculous relationship with his mother. Made nearly 30 years ago, this is cosy, undemanding fun.

RC lacked the prolifity of his comedy partner RB but this is a classic series, old fashioned situation comedy, a 42 year old man living at home with his parents at the time was deemed outlandish, now in 2009, nearly 30 years after the series was first broacast and it is common occurance!
